I'm a Celebrity Gino D'Acampo and Stuart Manning Face Animal Cruelty Charges

by Connor Davidson
My Books and Articles (under construction)

This morning I was flicking through the teletext for some news. Having done my rounds of reading the entire "in-depth" section, politics and science/technology section I flicked over to see the headlines. I was confronted by an article on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" so I read it. This is where I found out about the whole "ho ha".

I'm not the greatest authority on reality TV as, for the most part, I can't stand it. But occasionally something interesting such as the rat debate comes up and I can't hep but get involved.

I did not watch the series while on the TV but used the power of the internet to watch the clip in question. What happened was one group was put on a very poor diet of only beans and rice. Naturally, they were hungry and the dull diet made them yearn for a change. So, they killed a rat for meat.

This struck a nerve with the RSPCA in New South Wales, Australia. They were mad that the killing of an animal had been done purely for the benefit of the cameras. I wouldn't put it past ITV to do so.

They are also highly annoyed that the producers did not follow the correct procedure in contacting them previous to the filming of the killing.

However, for me at least, the question must be posed why are the rats so special? Yes, having your throat slit is horrible and could easily be construed as cruelty. But what about the thousands of insects that are squished, thrown around and even eaten live? Should they not be causing a huge "ho ha" too?

The police have confirmed a court date of the 3rd of February 2010. Where the RSPCA will have a chance to flex its muscles in-front of big-bucks celebrity lawyers.

I'm fascinated to see how all this pans out in court.
