Can Men Be Friends With Women They're Attracted To?
by shareen williams(4)
Zoe and John have been best friends for nearly a decade. Zoe is a lesbian and John has been married for 3 years.
Two weeks ago Zoe got super drunk and told John she would love to date him if his marriage didn't work out.
Zoe should've never revealed her feelings because ever since that conversation, John has been hitting on her left and right. What once was considered two buddies hanging out has now evolved into a more romantic relationship.
Zoe is beginning to re-evaluate her whole friendship.
Has John always been attracted to Zoe? Has their entire friendship been a fallacy? Was she merely considered a female friend John had never slept with instead of the loving best friend she thought she was?
Many people say men cannot be friends with women they are attracted to; I've only seen it happen in the following cases:
The guy wasn't attracted to the girl
The guy is a homosexual or vice versa.
The guy is dating a woman who is much more attractive than his bestfriend.
But, can a guy be good friends with a girl he is deeply infatuated with?
Whenever John was asked if he had slept with Zoe, he would reassure everyone of their averseness to each other, but lately he's starting to see Zoe in a more sexual and mature light.
The Aftermath
Zoe's beginning to think John has always been interested in her but never said anything because he wasn't sure if the feeling was mutual.
Two weeks later, they end up sleeping together.
Their friendship is ruined.
John refuses to leave his wife and build a relationship with Zoe; In the process, Zoe gets her feelings hurt because she believed they shared something more.
Can a guy be great friends with someone he's sexually attracted to?
If so, does the guy accept friendship status only because he knows he will never have sex with the girl?
If the guy and girl end up sleeping together, can they possibly sustain a friendship?
