If you aren't familiar with the name Miranda Cosgrove yet, you will be soon. The star of Nickelodeon's hit comedy iCarly recently landed at No. 12 on Billboard's list of the 21 Under 21 stars to watch. The 17-year-old vocalist/actress made her film debut alongside Jack Black in 2003's School of Rock and subsequently appeared on Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh in 2004. Her role on Drake & Josh served as her big break, and the network rewarded her with her very own show, the popular iCarly.

Cosgrove recently launched her music career, but that doesn't mean she is giving up on acting-Billboard.com reports that Nickelodeon reportedly gave Cosgrove a seven-figure deal last spring. Nielsen reports that iCarly ranked as the No. 1 live-action series on broadcast and basic cable with kids 2-11 in first-quarter 2010.

Miranda Cosgrove released her aptly titled debut album, Sparks Fly, on April 27 via Columbia Records. In its first week, the teen sensation's pop debut bowed at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart with 36,000 units sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Cosgrove co-wrote songs like the album's lead single, "Kissin' U," which rose to No. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of Sparks Fly's release.

Although an actress releasing a pop album is a familiar story, Miranda Cosgrove told Billboard.com that she is different. "I'm playing a character on iCarly, but this shows more of myself. Some people might think I'm just another actress putting out an album. But I wanted to prove that I'm more than that," she said. Cosgrove may have started her career in acting, but she began singing at age five and playing guitar by the time she was eight.

In 2007 Cosgrove recorded the iCarly theme song "Leave It All To Me" with Drake & Josh co-star Drake Bell and the seed for a recording career was planted. "Before that, I didn't see myself making an album. But when I spent time in the studio doing the theme song and saw how much fun it was, I wanted to go back," Cosgrove revealed to Billboard. In June 2008, an iCarly soundtrack featuring "Leave It All To Me" and three other songs by the actress-turned-singer debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard 200 chart.

It took Cosgrove nearly two years to finish Sparks Fly because of the busy filming schedule for her Nickelodeon series, but the resulting album is worth the wait. According to Columbia marketing manager Chris Poppe, the album's lengthy development period allowed for Cosgrove to mature as an artist. "Miranda started working on [the album] at 14, and she's 16 now. The difference between those two ages is huge, and she songs have had to grow along with her," Poppe told Billboard.com in early May (Cosgrove turned 17 on May 14).

Sparks Fly features production credits from big names like Dr. Luke, the Matrix and Antonina Armato. iCarly fans with Miranda Cosgrove tickets can see Cosgrove perform songs off the album, like the pop-rock track "Shakespeare" and the dancefloor cut "BAM," on her tour. Cosgrove has concerts lined up in cities like Minneapolis, Minn.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Detroit, Mich.; Wallingford, Conn.; New York, N.Y.; Atlanta, Ga.; Houston, Texas; Anaheim, Calif. and more through late February 2011.
