When you are pregnant, you may find that your heart tends to beat a little faster and a little harder than it normally would. This can be normal, or could be the sign that there is something wrong.
What you are experiencing is called heart palpitations. Heart palpitation can be defined as a strongly beating heart, or a heart which is beating at an abnormally rapid speed.
Along with this irritating symptom, you may also experience headaches, dizziness, gas, bloating, constipation, etc. This is generally normal, and nothing to worry about if it is not too severe.
There are many reasons why your heart could be experiencing the sensations that it is. Here are some of the reasons why these symptoms may be happening, along with some suggestions about how to control it.
The first and possibly most common reason this happens is due to stress. It is perfectly normal to feel some stress when it comes to the huge change you are going through.
There are so many hormonal and bodily changes that a pregnant woman goes through, that stress has become a common occurrence during pregnancy. When a woman is stressed, her blood pressure increases, making the heart beat rapidly, thus causing heart palpitations in the process.
If you drink tea, coffee, or energy drinks in excess, these beverages can cause an accelerated heart rate as well. Caffeine is known to produce symptoms similar to an anxiety attack, thus, causing a rapid change in pulse while you are expecting, particularly when you have a certain number of milligrams per day.
Remember that your body is undergoing lots of changes as well, as physical stress can cause irritating symptoms as well. All women are recommended to exercise frequently while they are expecting.
Doing something simple like walking on a treadmill is a good way to stay fit, while not expending too much energy or calories. Buying a treadmill to walk on in the comfort of your home is a great idea for while you are expecting.
If they are done in excess or if the woman is constantly involved in some sort of physical activities, she might feel physically fatigued, thus producing symptoms, such as, dizziness and a racing heart.
You may also want to check with your doctor to see if you are anemic at all. Anemia is caused due to the deficiency of hemoglobin in the body.
Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells, and adequate amounts of iron in the body are required to manufacture it. When a woman is pregnant, the amount of blood almost doubles in her body.
In order to make hemoglobin for this excess blood, the body of a woman who is expecting needs excess iron too. If the demand of iron is not fulfilled, the pregnant woman may become anemic and this might produce a ticker that beats a little too hard.
You may also want to have your doctor check for a magnesium deficiency, as this can cause symptoms as well. A deficiency of magnesium in the diet of the woman can cause problems.
Most American diets are magnesium deficit. A woman suffering from magnesium deficiency, produces symptoms such as vomiting and morning sickness.
Sometimes, a medicine that you are taking can produce this side effect as well. To prevent this problem, try to eat a diet rich in iron and vitamin C. Some of the foods rich in iron, which can treat anemia are, red meat, raisins, apricots, prunes, green leafy vegetables, eggs, and liver.
For treating magnesium, including foods high in magnesium, such as legumes, nuts, wheat bran, and green vegetables will help you. For dealing with stress, try yoga, massages, aromatherapy, and listening to music which is soothing to you.
If you are having this reaction due to a medicine which you are taking, try replacing the medicine with some more suitable medication that will minimize them. Adequate rest, eight hours of sleep, refraining from caffeine, can also cure the problem straight out.
Talk to your doctor right away if you are experiencing anything like this. They will be able to quickly check you and the baby, and ensure that everything is going well.
They may also be able to tell you exactly where the symptoms are coming from. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the health of your baby.
