Take Care of Bearded Dragon and keep him happy and healthy for years
by Max Power(1)
Bearded dragons are beautiful creatures but if you are not taking care of bearded dragon properly or are thinking of getting one you need to read this advice.
I have seen many problems for bearded dragons brought about by well meaning or misinformed individuals so I have put together a few definite basics that everyone should know about 'beardies' and taking care of bearded dragon.
1) Food: To take good care of bearded dragon you will need to feed him 2 or 3 times a day. When they are young they will feed on crickets and when they are older you can introduce a variety of live worms from the reptile shop as well as green leaves and root vegetables. The width between your bearded dragons eyes is a good indication of the size of food they should be given.
2) Water: Your beardie will use water for basking as well as drinking although sometimes they prefer not to drink from the shallow bowl and instead you will have to use a plant spray or drip moisture onto their mouths to get them to drink. Your care of bearded dragon should never include putting water in a baby dragons tank.
3) Substrate: The bottom of your bearded dragon's tank should only be newspaper or specialized juvenile reptile matting. They are messy eaters when young and could end up eating sand if that is used. Play sand is fine when they are older.
4) Warmth: Care of bearded dragon will obviously include the need for warmth. they are from the desert but are also cold blooded. Your vivarium (tank) should have a cool and warm end in the range of 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit respectively.
5) Light: As well as heat they also need light so care of bearded dragon must also include the provision of a 'natural light' source or good replacement for that. Unless you have a specialist lamp for the your bearded dragon you may need a separate light and heat source.
Of course this is just scratching the surface of what you really need to know about taking care of bearded dragon and keeping your beardie happy, clean and safe
