While it is the most beautiful dream for a child to have his/her own swing set, it is a nightmare for parents. Even though parents know how much kids love swing sets, they fear the cost of maintenance swing sets would bring in. And, for this very reason, they avoid installing these sets in the yards. But, is that what the child deserves? The answer is NO! Your children should have swing sets in the yard so that they can play and exercise their bodies to the utmost level in order to enhance their growth.

So, if you are a parent who wants to get a wooden swing set but fears the cost of maintenance then here's the good news for you! With these simple tips it will be easier than ever for you to maintain a wooden swing set. If you follow them right, your kids will love you for giving them the best gift ever!

Make Sure to Inspect

The biggest problem that people face with wooden swing sets is of infestation by insects. Wasps, termites, wasps, bees and other similar insects can shelter in the corners or in the wood. If you have a wooden set that is already coated well to protect it from infestations then this shouldn't be your worry. But, if you don't have such a set then you must take care of it. The best way to manage infestation is to spray the wooden swing set with a garden hose every week. The pressure will drive away or kill the insects and wash them out.

Tips for Washing Your Swing Set

Again, you need to first wash the swing set with a garden hose so that the dust, dirt and mud present on and in it is cleaned up. Make sure the pressure of the hose is not damaging the wood. Next, get a soft bristle brush, soap or detergent, clean water and sponge for cleaning the set. Start from the top of the set and go down. Use the brush for the corners or sensitive areas and the sponge should be used for most of the washing. The reason you should start from the top is to avoid the dirty water moving towards the already washed areas which can happen if you start from the bottom. Also, using a mild soap or detergent is the best way to clean these sets instead of spending money on special cleaning agents. Trust me soap water is the best for cleaning a wooden swing set!

The Last Wash...

Once you have cleaned the set with soap water, you will again need to use the hose to give the set a final wash. Once done, use a dry cloth to dry the set as much as possible. Moist wood is vulnerable to harsh weather conditions, insects and of course dirt.
