MTV Star ‘Big Black’ Dead at 45

Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, the bodyguard, best friend, and work  partner of Rob Dyrdek in MTV’s “Rob & Big” TV show passed away on Tuesday at the age of 45. Boykin was a skateboarder and an entrepreneur who appeared on the namesake TV show that featured the day to day lives of both Dyrdek and Boykin.

According to a report by TMZ on Tuesday, the cause of his death is still unknown cause though some say he may have died of a heart attack. His death was confirmed by his representative. Shannon, Boykin’s ex-wife wrote on his Twitter account that she was “heartbroken to tell you of Black’s passing. He’s everything to me and Isis and we will miss him.”

Drydek also expressed his sentiments on Twitter saying “My heart is broken. I don’t want to write this post. I don’t want to believe that this is reality. I am thankful for you.” In his post was a picture of him and Boykin riding a swing during their fun times together.

It seemed like Drydek could not accept the departure of his “brother” as he said “we were truly brothers that lived an unexpected unforgettable adventure. I just can’t fathom that it would end so suddenly.” He later added “you will forever be in my heart.”

Dyrdek and Boykin worked together on the MTV show beginning in 2006. In 2008, the show ended because Boykin had to move out of Drydek’s house. He was, at that time, expecting a child and had to live in a separate house with his new family.

Despite having parted ways, the duo still managed to keep things cool between them, which resulted in Boykin showing up on some of Dyrdek’s shows like “Fantasy Factory” and “Ridiculousness.”

Before appearing on television Big Black served the US Navy. He also had his own clothing line back in 2007.
