Boat Captain Saves Drowning Cat Thrown Off Bridge

Charter boat captain Jordan Smith was just cruising by a bridge in Destin, Fla. on his way to pick up a group of fishing clients when out of the corner of his eye, he saw something moving in the water and was surprised to realize it was a cat.

“I just saw something out of the corner of my eye. I saw some movement. Then I heard splat! Splat! I thought someone threw some trash down,” Smith told Panama City News Herald. “I’ve seen some pretty crazy stuff out there, but never had seen a living animal get thrown off the bridge,” he said.

The boat captain said that the cat looked at him pleadingly, as if asking, “please save me”. Naturally, the captain immediately began working to bring the poor feline to safety.

“When I took it out of the net, it grabbed a hold of my arm. I held the cat all the way into the Harbor Walk. It was pretty intense,” Smith shared.

Since Smith had a work to carry out, he requested Nicole Manard, a worker at the harbor to cat-sit for a while until his return. Fortunately, Manard agreed and even took the cat to the veterinarian for a check-up.

According to the Huffington Post, Smith reported the incident to the authorities but the cat’s case was labeled “inactive” considering that pieces of evidence pointing to a specific suspect were lacking.

Considering that the cat is all alone, Smith plans on taking her in to be part of his family. Smith has a dog, which he lovingly calls “his princess” though he admits that it may be a challenge for the two species to get along.

“The last time I had my dog around a cat, the cat chased my dog around,” Smith admitted.

Taking into account all that the cat had been through, Smith intends to call the cat by the name “Miracle”.
