Comedian Uses Bot To Write Olive Garden Commercial And The Results Are Hilarious

Let’s admit it, some people are fanatical about Olive Garden. Their dining habits may become routine, or slightly robotic. Comedian Keaton Patti combined these concepts when he programmed a bot to generate an Olive Garden commercial. The results were a laugh-out-loud kind of pop culture masterpiece.

Pasta Nachos And Lasagna Wings

On his Twitter feed, Patti explains, “I forced a bot to watch over 1,000 Olive Garden commercials and then asked it to write a commercial of its own. Here is the first page.”

The result is a lighthearted robot romp that takes a knee-slappingly hilarious dark turn that no human would ever think of. Buckle up for the next hot trend in chain restaurant marketing.

Be Very Afraid, Italian Citizens

The bot-inspired commercial features a group of friends enjoying a meal at Olive Garden while a waitress provides thoughtful insight on the dishes, which “we believe the waitress that it is from the kitchen.”

The “pasta nachos,” for example, “are warm and defeated,” while the “lasagna wings,” have more “Italy than necessary.” Friend 4 pipes in, “I shall eat Italian Citizens.” Nobody seems concerned about that statement. They are worried, however, that Friend 4 is too quiet, which becomes all the more disturbing when Friend 4 smiles widely and we learn her mouth is full of “secret soup.”

A Comedic Niche In The Technology Age

We don’t know if a bot really wrote this or if it’s a creative project from the mind of Patti, who has written for the New YorkerComedy Central, the Onion, McSweeney’s, and Funny or Die. He’s used this format before, tweeting bot mash-up scripts inspired byThe Saw franchise and segments from Fox News.

The Olive Garden bot commercial definitely resonated with Patti’s followers, who retweeted the script, commented on their favorite lines, and awarded him over 320,000 likes. Perhaps we related to the announcer’s statement, delivered in a “wet voice,” the tagline: “Olive Garden. When you’re here, you’re here.”
