A Kitten Disrupted a St. Louis Baseball Game and Pandemonium Ensued

It was already a great game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals, when one huge surprise hit the field. Not only did the Cardinals win. The big surprise was when a little kitten came running across the baseball field, oblivious to what was happening around him.

As can be seen on the video, the cat appeared on the field seemingly from out of nowhere, to the delight of the crowd. It went past Royals Center Fielder Lorenzo Cain and straight to the other side of the field where it was chased and caught by Lucas Hackman, a stadium employee.

Unfortunately, Hackman had no idea that the adorable cat would fight to stay on the field – biting fiercely as he was being taken away.

“I don’t know what I was thinking, but when I picked it up, honestly I thought I was just going to have this cute little jog back into the dugout, and I’d have this little kitten in my hands,” Hackman said in an interview.  “I put it in my arms, like, pretty secure to keep it safe. I put my hand like right in front of its mouth, not even thinking anything is going to happen. I take like five steps running and it just latches on to my index finger!”

Hackman was bitten about four times and had a couple of scratches but the attention is on the missing cat.

In a statement released by the Cardinals, the team revealed that a fan initially claimed ownership of the cat but the fan apparently lost the cat eventually.

“… as our ushers tried to contain the cat, a fan grabbed it and claimed it was hers. As she left the ballpark, our security team caught up with her and asked her some questions. She then abruptly left with the cat. We understand from media accounts that the woman intended to take it home and care for it, but lost track of it in City Garden.”

The Cardinals team is seriously looking for the feline, dubbed as #RallyCat, so they could “properly care for it.”
