Dog Who Lost His Lamb Best Friend Gets Comfort from Stuffed Animal

The Paddy the dog and Lily the lamb were an unlikely pair but they were truly best friends. The two came together when Janell Jensen and her husband adopted Paddy, a chihuahua who suffered from a misaligned disc in his neck after suffering from a road accident. They made sure that Paddy was properly cared for so that he could live as normal as possible. Since they were open to adopting animals with special needs, the vet called Janell after a couple of months after taking in Paddy, asking if they still have room for another special-needs animal – a lamb, this time.

The lamb, named Lily, was readily welcomed by the Jensen couple. As soon as Lily set foot in the house, Paddy instantly showed his love for the poor lamb too.

“When we adopted Lily, Paddy took her under his wing right away and became her official face washer after each and every bottle of lamb’s milk, which at first was every hour,” Jensen told The Dodo in an interview. “He snuggled with her to keep her company; she was HIS baby lamb. Lily would also walk over to Paddy and snuggle up to him. They loved each other … they were VERY close.”

The odd pair of Paddy the dog and Lily the lamb, who had balance and mobility issues, were an unlikely pair but their weaknesses did not stop them from running around the house, playing, and cuddling often.

Unfortunately, Lily’s leg condition grew worse and worse and she passed away when she was just over a year old.

The Jensens were naturally devastated because of what happened but since their dog was unable to understand, Paddy was confused as to why Lily was no longer around.

To help Paddy deal with the loss, his aunt sent him a stuffed lamb that looked a lot like Lily. Upon seeing the toy lamb, Paddy instantly kept the toy close for some warm cuddles.

“I put it in his big dog crate, that we call his ‘mancave,’ and he snuggles up to it on his heating pad,” Janell said adding that it was clear how much Paddy missed his best friend’s presence.
