Dying Grandparents Take Part in World’s Most Adorable Marriage Proposal
It had been a difficult day for Angi Grippo. Her family just received information that her grandparents would likely only have a few months to live. Her grandfather, Cosmo DeFazio, a World War II veteran, was in poor health, while her grandmother, Doris DeFazio, was suffering from stage-4 cancer. But the day unexpectedly turned around for the better, becoming one of the most unforgettable occasions of Angi’s life.
It all started when the whole family went on vacation together to Daytona Beach, Fla., for what they knew might be the last excursion with the grandparents. As they walked along the boardwalk that day on May 30, Angi’s boyfriend Toby Freeman knelt beside the World War II veteran was her boyfriend Toby Freeman holding a ring.
Asked by Inside Edition if she had an idea of what was going to happen, Angi said that she “had no idea what was happening. I just thought we were all getting together. So, let’s try to make this the best vacation for them possible.”
“I was already sad,” she said. “I turned around and I saw my grandfather. He was crying and that just sent me over the edge.”
Angi added that “For them to see this moment in my life knowing that they probably won’t be able to come to my wedding meant a tremendous amount to me.”
She has an important message for people everywhere. “Don’t wait until last minute to do the things that are important to you. Tell people you love them … and visit your grandparents!”
