This Hawaiian Singer’s Catchy Spin On ‘The National Anthem’ Has Us Rocking
There have been some unique renditions of the Star Spangled Banner since it became the National Anthem in 1931. But this Hawaiian singer’s beautiful take on the anthem is one for the record books.
Remixing The Anthem
Singer Willie K. had the opportunity to perform the National Anthem before kickoff at the University of Hawaii’s football game against the University of Nevada. Rather than sticking to the traditional melody, Willie decided to switch things up.
The local Hawaiian singer brought out his ukulele for the performance, paying honor to his home. Using the instrument, Willie sang his own wonderful take of the anthem before the crowd at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Afterward, he was met with thunderous applause for his unique but stirring cover!
Killing The Stage
Up For The Battle
Though Willie K. may stay put in Maui, people around the world are currently marveling at his skills. What’s even more amazing is that the singer was able to sing in spite of his current battle with lung cancer. He had his final chemotherapy session in April but is currently undergoing treatment to boost his immune system. Fans have even been donating to Willie K.’s GoFundMe page to assist with his medical bills.
This strong, spirited singer is determined to fight against his health issues. And he certainly refuses to let it stop him from pursuing his music.
