Woman Finds Lost Engagement Ring Wrapped Around a Carrot

84-year-old Mary Grams from Canada lost her engagement ring while tending her farm in 2004 but nobody knew it was lost other than her son.

“We looked high and low on our hands and knees,” Grams told CBC News. “We couldn’t find it. I thought for sure either they rototilled it or something happened to it.”

Grams said that she had been wearing the ring ever since becoming engaged to her husband in 1952, which was why she decided to buy a replacement ring so that her husband wouldn’t know that she lost her engagement ring.

“I didn’t tell him, even, because I thought for sure he’d give me heck or something,” Grams said.

Considering that over a decade had passed since the incident, Grams had no hopes of ever getting the ring back. The property where Grams lost her beloved ring now belonged to her son and daughter-in-law, Colleen Daley.

When Daley went to the garden to harvest some vegetables, she noticed that one carrot was deformed and upon scrutiny, she discovered that there was a ring wrapped around the body of the vegetable.

“I knew it had to belong to either grandma or my mother-in-law because no other women have lived on that farm,” Daley said.

The moment Gram’s son learned about it, he knew right away that it was the engagement ring his mother lost thirteen years ago.

“I asked my husband if he recognized the ring. And he said yeah. His mother had lost her engagement ring years ago in the garden and never found it again. And it turned up on this carrot,” Daley shared.

Sadly, Grams husband passed away five years ago without knowing her secret but the 84-year-old is excited to wear the ring again.

“I’m going to wear it because it still fits,” Grams said.
