Man Transforms This $100 Shack Into His Dream Retirement Cabin
Financial security during retirement is becoming scarcer every day. Because of this, many people aren’t able to make their retirement dreams come true. However, one man was determined to have it all. With a little help from family and friends, he was able to make a miracle happen. Now, he will get to live out his retirement the way he wants to in the $100 home of his dreams.
A Hillbilly’s Dream
Richard Aiken had always dreamed of retiring in the wilderness. The self-proclaimed hillbilly was successful, possessing two doctorates and a degree in medicine. He even wrote his own book. However, he worried about his financial ability to buy his dream home. That all changed when a friend reached out to help.
A Lending Hand
His friend owned a lot of land in Missouri and offered to give him a piece of it for free. Richard insisted on paying $100 for it. It seemed like a steal at the time, but the cabin on the property was in shambles. With the help of his family, he began to remodel it. It took ten years and there were some difficulties along the way.
A Few Setbacks
The first setback was the land itself. It was so uneven that the cabin had to be raised off the ground. Then, the project began to take too long. His children got tired of helping him and his wife didn’t want any more money being thrown away. Richard was able to persevere, though. He eventually created a beautiful home.
An Amazing Result
The result of ten long years of hard work and investment is astonishing. You wouldn’t know that this gorgeous cabin was once a disaster. It is earthy and warm while still providing plenty of space for living. There is no doubt it will be a great place to retire. There is still one more amazing feat that Richard was able to accomplish on the property, though.
A Great Surprise
After his children had noticed a small water table, Richard hired a few bulldozers. What they unearthed was a gorgeous little lake. A dock was built on the edge of it. This feature really makes the property stand out. His wife and him will be able to enjoy the hard-earned view for the rest of their lives.
