Mother Reunited With Son 18 Years After Giving Him Up For Adoption
One of the worst things a mother can go through is losing a child. Letting go of someone you love is never easy, but having them come back into your life is an experience no words could ever explain. This is what happened to this woman.
Tammy Oswalt is a single mother from Florida. She has three children but sadly she had to let go of one of them as she was experiencing financial turmoil and was quickly sinking into bankruptcy. Just at the brink of homelessness, this single mom had to endure the most difficult decision in her life. She had to give her newborn son up for adoption for him to survive.
Oswalt had to give her son Bruce to someone who could give him the life he deserves. She broke up with her husband due to his substance abuse issues. Back then, Oswalt wasn’t aware that she was pregnant with another child. After the break-up, she was left raising her two daughters on her own, and it wasn’t panning out right for them.
When she gave birth to Bruce, now named Dylan Rich, she was barely able to make ends meet.
In an interview, Oswalt said: “A mom doesn’t give up her child like a sack of potatoes. All I could give him was love and sometimes that’s not enough. I had to make the decision to give him up because I did love him.” She was reduced to tears.
After giving away her son, Oswalt was not out of the woods yet. She suffered severe depression from what she had done.
“I tried to commit suicide,” Oswalt recounted: “The emotional guilt and loss overwhelmed me.”
Little did she know that one of her daughters, Hewett, was keeping in touch with Dylan; and they prepared a surprise that would change her life. Four days after her birthday, Oswalt was invited by her daughter for dinner.
When Oswalt saw that her daughter was holding a camera, she became suspicious. Hewett then said, “Meet your son, Dylan.” Oswalt was shocked. All she could utter was “Oh my God, I love you. You’re beautiful.”
After the meeting, they decided that it was time to build their relationship.
“I feel complete now. Everything that I ever wanted, I now have. I’ve gotten what matters and that’s family” says Oswalt.
