It’s All In the Genes: Mother-Daughter Celebrity Look Alikes
They often say that famous people and Hollywood stars tend to keep it in the family and there seems to be a lot of truth in that statement! This list of mother-daughter celebrity look alikes proves that the progeny of the world’s most famous singers, actresses, and supermodels are often carbon copies of their parents who bequeathed them a lucky string of DNA. So, if you’re ready to experience a bit of a chip off the old block, then read here. We warn you: you might have to rub your eyes after seeing double as these duo divas will knock your socks off!
1. Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson has risen to fame for playing Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades of Gray, but did you know that the Hollywood starlet hails from a successful line of Hollywood starlets? That’s right, her mother is none other than Melanie Griffith, renowned for her performance in the 1988 flick Working Girl, while her grandmother is the Hitchcock actress Tippi Hedren.
Johnson definitely inherited the showbiz gene from the leading ladies in her life, as well as her father, the actor, producer, and director, Don Johnson. Dakota Johnson’s career first took off when she co-starred as Griffith’s on-screen daughter in Crazy in Alabama, and now the sky is the limit for this People’s Choice Award and BAFTA Rising Star award holder.
2. Christie Brinkley and Sailor Lee Brinkley Cook
Now this is what you call a pair of glamorous uptown girls! Supermodel Christie Brinkley has always known how to strut her stuff, and it seems like Brinkley’s youngest daughter Sailor Lee Brinkley Cook is following right in her mother’s stiletto-wearing footsteps.
The striking resemblance between this star-studded mother-daughter duo left fans amazed when supermodel Brinkley modeled for Sports Illustrated with both her daughters, Sailor Lee Cook and Alexa Ray Joel, by her side in 2017. Since Cook took to Twitter and Instagram in 2011, her following has grown exponentially, which has garnered her a contract with the modeling agency IMG modeling.
3. Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber
Kaia Gerber can definitely chant “I got it from my mama”. At just 16 years old, she is a spitting image of her mom, supermodel Cindy Crawford. It’s safe to say that fashion and beauty were always written in the stars for her!
While Crawford was a household name in the ’80s and ’90s, her daughter Gerber became the next It Girl when she graced the cover of Vogue and debuted on the runway for Calvin Klein in 2017. Gerber seems to have slipped into her mother’s successful shoes, or should we say heels, by modeling for fashion houses Versace, Burberry, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Fendi, Moschino, and Alexander Wang, and she’s not slowing down. Now that’s what you call a good set of genes!
4. Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer
When your mother has been cited as “the best actress of her generation,” the genetic apple cannot fall too far from the blessed tree, right? That’s certainly the case for three-time Academy Award winning (and 21-time nominee) actress Meryl Streep and her daughter Mary Willa “Mamie” Gummer.
Gummer doesn’t only look identical to her iconic mother, she also inherited her stellar acting skills from Streep. Gummer hit the silver screen at the tender age of 20 months old alongside her mother in the 1986 movie Heartburn and reunited with her as her on-screen daughter in the 2015 comedy-drama Ricki and the Flash. 7. Madonna and Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon
When your mother dominates the “material world” as the queen of pop, then it’s only natural to follow suit as her daughter, right? It also makes total sense that Lourdes Leon is a copy-paste pre-blonde version of her successful mother.
The formidable duo launched their very own ’80s-inspired punk-girl fashion line at Macy’s called Material Girl. An avid fan of her mother, Leon has also worked on Madonna: Celebration – The Video Collection, an anthology of videos spanning her mother’s career from 1983 to 2009, as well the 2005 documentary I’m Going to Tell You a Secret about Madonna’s Re-Invention world tour in 2004.

With a mother as pretty as a peach like Louisiana-born Academy-Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, it’s simple math that her daughter would turn out just as fine. Ava Phillippe, daughter of Witherspoon and actor Ryan Philippe, definitely didn’t have “cruel intentions” when bringing Ava into the world. In fact, they had the best of them judging by Ava’s burgeoning success today.
The 18-year-old Phillippe debuted as an up-and-coming fashion model when she lent her face to the clothing and accessory brand Rodarte for its Fall 2018 Portrait Series collection, and her mother couldn’t help but brag at how beautiful her daughter is both “inside and out.” Turns out the young model didn’t only inherit her mother’s good genes, but also her tenacity and ambition.
