How One Woman’s Curiosity Changed a Homeless Man’s Life Forever

Shalla Monteiro, a woman from Sao Paulo, passed by the same homeless man every day. One day, she saw him furiously writing and surrounded by papers. Curiosity got the better of her and she stopped to see what he was working on. The man gladly handed over a piece of paper to her. Shalla read the man’s work and knew she had to share it with the world.

A Tortured Past

The homeless man, Raimundo Arrudo Sobrihno, had been living on the streets for 35 years when Shalla found him. When a dictatorship rocked his country of Brazil, he was left homeless and alone.

In order to deal with the trials of his day to day life, Raimundo wrote stories and poetry. Every day he would pour his soul out onto the paper. It was a lonely existence, but at least he had his passion. When Shalla stopped to talk to him, he was thrilled to share his poetry with her. Someone actually saw him!

An Act Of Pure Kindness

Shalla was so impressed with Raimundo’s poetry, she asked if she could set up a Facebook page to share his art. He agreed. Every day she would visit Raimundo, and every day he would hand her more of his writing to share.

She was his only connection to the world around him. It made him happy to have people read his work. Word spread over social media about Raimundo’s writings, and Shalla received a surprising message from a fan.

A Family Reunited

The fan was none other than Raimundo’s long lost brother! The turmoil in Brazil had separated their family, and Raimundo’s brother had been looking for his lost brothers for 35 years.

He immediately invited Raimundo to live with him and his family. Raimundo couldn’t believe it. One act of kindness from a stranger changed his life completely. Now Raimundo is finally in a place he can call home.
