YouTube’s Highest-Paid Star Is Only 7-Years-Old
You don’t have to be a star athlete or have a long career to become a mogul. The highest-paid star on YouTube is Ryan ToysReview, who earned $22 million over a 12-month period. While it’s not unusual for YouTube stars to earn the big bucks, what is unusual is Ryan’s age. He’s only seven years old.
Who is Ryan ToysReview?
Ryan ToysReview is just your average seven-year-old who loves opening toys. He has amassed over 17 million subscribers since his parents created his account for him in March 2015. Over the course of the past several years, his videos have generated 26 billion views.
Ryan believes he’s become so popular on YouTube because, as he says, “I’m entertaining and I’m funny.” The majority of Ryan’s income is from sponsored posts; some of the toys featured on his channel have been known to sell out immediately.
YouTube’s Highest Paid Stars
While Ryan may be the highest paid of all the influencers on YouTube, there are other people making millions of dollars. One of them is Dude Perfect; you may recognize them from their trick shot videos, which have earned them $20 million in 2018. The five-man crew has reached 175 million views on their channel.
Not too far behind both of them is Markiplier, who earned $17.5 million. The Hawaiian native launched his YouTube channel in 2012, where he played PS4 video games with his live commentary. With 10 billion views, a North American tour, seven-figure brand deals, and a high-end leisure line for gamers, Markiplier is making more than a living doing what he loves.
The highest paid stars on YouTube aren’t relying on views for their income. More and more they are developing merchandise as a revenue stream. Almost all of the stars are in their 20s and 30s, with some notable top earner exceptions, and they have used merchandise as a way to plan for the future.
For some, they’re building a larger empire. For others, they’re still figuring it all out and enjoying entertaining their millions of fans.
