Brave 8-Year-Old With A Blood Disorder Fulfilled Her Dream To Swim With Mermaids
Suffering from a chronic illness as a young child can be devastating to a kid’s mental health and happiness. But this week, one sweet 8-year-old with a blood disorder had the time of her life swimming with her favorite mythical creatures!
Naomi’s Rocky Childhood Journey
For young Naomi, childhood hasn’t been carefree. The 8-year-old has spent a great deal of her life confined to hospital beds due to a rare blood disorder. And while Naomi has kept high-spirits through much of her treatment, her parents have seen the toll the disease has taken on her.
“This is a hard disease for a child so young to go through,” her father, Philip Hyde, explained. Considering her numerous hospitalizations, it’s understandable that Naomi might struggle to remain hopeful. However, recently, a spirit-lifting company decided to bring a little magic into Naomi’s life!
The Unbelievable Dedication Of Make-A-Wish
Most people are familiar with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, yet many don’t realize the lengths to which this amazing company goes to fulfill the dreams of sick children. They go above and beyond when it comes to bringing happiness to kids who are suffering from a variety of devastating illnesses. And when it requires defying reality, they always come through!
Make-A-Wish has pulled off some incredibly massive dreams across the years! From turning a little boy into Batman for the day to helping a group of terminally ill kids finally “rescue” Gilligan from his island, the company has always put its best foot forward to cheer children up. And when Naomi wanted to spend the day as a mermaid, she got her wish!
An Incredible Afternoon With Mermaids
As Naomi wandered a South Florida beach in late July, she came across a pair of mermaids waiting to swim with her! Of course, Naomi was ecstatic to put on her very own pink tail and hop in the water with the gorgeous creatures. While most children are fans of mermaids, her mother says Naomi’s passion for the mythical sea beauties goes beyond simply liking them.
According to her mom, Leona Guerrier, mermaids have been one of Naomi’s reasons for staying strong through her sickness. Through Make-A-Wish, Naomi was able to find some true happiness as she continues to fight her disorder! Her mother’s wish now is that “she stay better, she stay good, and she keep on living her dream.”
