Abandoned Puppy Has Touching Reunion With Rescuer Who Saved Him From Cruelly Taped Shut Muzzle

Dogs are too often vulnerable to unspeakable and senseless acts of cruelty by humans. When a man found a puppy with its muzzle bound tightly with tape, he was moved to help the pooch in a desperate situation.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

In Griffith, Indiana, Bob Hoelter decided one wintry night he would walk, instead of taking the car to a nearby store. As Mr. Hoelter was crossing over a bridge on his two-mile journey, he stopped in his tracks. Under the darkness of the bridge, a pained and frightened whimper caught his ear.

Getting down on his hands and knees, Bob wanted to know who was in trouble and how he could help. Always prepared for anything, Bob pulled out his trusty flashlight to get a better view under the bridge. Nothing could prepare him for what he would find.

Race To Save A Life

Cold, shivering, and frightened half to death, a four-month-old puppy lay at the bottom of the bridge with his mouth wrapped shut with electrical tape. Horrified, Bob quickly grabbed the abused pup and threw him under his jacket, and made a mad dash for the Griffith Animal Hospital down the road. “I never thought I would see this in real life,” said Lori Kovacich, the animal hospital manager of three decades.

The pup was bone-thin, had a broken leg, and the electrical tape bindings had created significant damage after being left on for days. Staff figured someone had thrown the poor creature off of the bridge but thankfully, missed their mark. Luckily, Bob Hoelter found the puppy and rushed him to the Griffith Animal Hospital for immediate care.

Heroes Are Never Forgotten

After recovering from his injuries, the pup eventually found a loving home. An animal-loving couple, Mary and Doug Witting, decided they would adopt the dog and named him Louie. The pair had lost their dog recently but were moved to adopt after hearing Louie’s heartbreaking story.

Lori Kovacich was thrilled for Louie but realized she never got any details about his rescuer. Luckily for everyone involved, Bob’s niece saw a Facebook post about the rescued pup and assisted with a reunion. Bob was in shock when Louie immediately ran over to him and began showering him with kisses for his compassion. The Griffith Animal Hospital later took to Facebook and stated that the puppy was expected to be adopted in a post about the account that’s so far garnered more than 6,000 likes and hundreds of supportive responses.
