Arizona Animal Shelter Holds Ridiculously Cute Prom for Senior Dogs

A prom for senior dogs aged seven years and older was recently hosted by the Maricopa County Animal Shelter in Phoenix, Ariz. on July 15, 2017. The dogs that participated in the event were set up for adoption, sans any adoption fees.

Officials at the shelter claim that: “Senior pets can be the ideal man’s best friend, as they are gentle, calm and often trained.”

Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Melissa Gable further explained: “People often think if the dog is older, it will die soon. Dogs can live 15 or 16 years, and seven years old isn’t that old for what they are calling a senior dog in this particular event.”

The prom proved that no senior dog, or any animal for that matter, can be too old to earn the title of prom queen or king.

The adorable spectacle with the theme “Happily Ever After” consisted of senior dogs wearing their best tiaras, tutus, or ties, as they mixed and mingled with prospective adopters.

The event chose some of the best-dressed dogs, which were then prompted to show off their cute ensembles as they strutted down a catwalk, competing for the Prom Queen or King title.

To make things more fun, humans were not limited to just those showing interest in adopting but those who simply wished to take pictures with the cute canines were also welcome to join.

The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shared on their Facebook page: “We want our senior males and females to be ‘Happily Ever After’ in their new ‘fur’-ever home.”

The result of the social event was very hopeful indeed. Nine dogs found adoptive families the very night of the prom itself. Among the lucky dogs is Minnie Moo, who almost instantly had an Instagram page created by her new caretaker. Another lucky canine is Opal, a rat terrier who found a loving home just one day after prom night.
