Heartwarming Video Shows Bus Driver Saving Wandering Toddler

You never know what you’re going to see while you’re driving. Irena Ivic certainly wasn’t expecting to see a wandering toddler on her usual commute. The alert bus driver noticed the child on the sidewalk, immediately stopped her bus, and rescued the child from any immediate harm. Her heroic act was captured on film and has since become a viral social media post. If you can request a bus driver, we’ll gladly choose Ivic.

Just Another Day

December 22, 2018, was just another day for Ivic, a Milwaukee, WI, city bus driver. She was driving her usual bus route when she looked to her left and noticed something she doesn’t see every day: a young toddler was walking down the sidewalk in nothing but a diaper and a onesie.

Ivic immediately knew what to do. She stopped her bus, ran across the street, and carried the child to her bus. The one-year-old girl was crying, and another passenger gave her a coat to stay warm while Ivic called for help.

‘Right Place At The Right Time’

Ivic acted upon instinct once she saw the child, who had been left outside by her mother. She knew she had to help. Even though she was shaking and hoping she did the right thing, Ivic knew she did what was best for the young child.

“I’m just grateful I was in the right place at the right time,” Ivic said. Passengers gathered around the child until an ambulance and authorities arrived to reunite the child with her father.

A Love For Children

This wasn’t the first time bus drivers have performed heroic duties, especially in Milwaukee. Nine children, including the most recent case, have been found by a Milwaukee County Transit System driver in recent years. This was Ivic’s first time spotting a child on the side of the road, but she’s glad she was there to help.

“I absolutely love kids. I used to be a teacher and I have children of my own, so I’m happy I was able to help this sweet, innocent baby,” Ivic said. We’re glad to have bus drivers like Ivic, who will stop at nothing to make sure everyone is safe—both on her bus and on the road.
