Some of the most naturally talented celebrities are showing off their natural faces on red carpets and on social media. The fresh-faced, makeup-free look is about celebrating and encouraging people, both famous and not, to feel confident in their own skin. See what some of our favorite celebrities look like and what they have to say about life without all the glam.
1. Lady Gaga
For singer and superstar Lady Gaga’s birthday, she decided to celebrate and share this picture on Instagram showcasing the big day with loads of cake and without loads of makeup. And years later, her casting in A Star is Born would lead to another pretty powerful no makeup moment between her and co-star Bradley Cooper.
As the pair told the LA Times, when Cooper and Gaga were set to read scripts in her home, she walked downstairs with full makeup. “Take if off,” Cooper told Gaga. He went on to take off all her makeup with a wipe, asking Gaga to be “completely open” with “no artifice.” As if we could not swoon over this on-screen romance any more than we already do.
2. Gwyneth Paltrow
Fans of actress Gwyneth Paltrow are used to seeing the Hollywood star either in full red carpet makeup, or in movie makeup over the years. But to celebrate her 44th year or life, she decided to give fans a peek at something they rarely get the chance to see.
In this picture, where she included a “#nomakeup” tag, Paltrow told followers that she is “embracing [her] past and future,” before giving a shoutout to Goop, her lifestyle brand. For anyone who has total hair and skin envy, luckily her beauty secrets are not secrets. Anyone can head on over to her Goop website for all of her skincare and hair care tricks, or read on for some inside scoop from a few other stars without makeup.
No last name and no makeup. Apparently, a perfect combination. But why is this fresh-faced pop icon scowling? Well, she blames that on being basically unbelievable. Before anyone gets confused, allow us to explain. Madonna wrote on social media that she took this picture after an argument about a package.
“When you’ve been arguing with customs all week that you are Madonna and they still won’t release your package,” she wrote on Instagram. But could anyone really blame the customs agents? It seems pretty unbelievable that Madonna would be on the other end of their phone line. Now that’s what you call au naturel.
4. Kylie Jenner
When Kylie Jenner, who has made millions from her line of Kylie Cosmetics, announced that she would be releasing a brand new line of skincare, many people were quick to question what the reality star knew about skincare anyway. Then, a series of posts from Jenner showing her makeup-free look were posted to Instagram and shut the naysayers right down.
Jenner’s makeup-free morning look showed fans what really goes down under all her Kylie lipkits and concealers. And the savvy businesswoman made pretty much all of Instagram want to go out and buy her line of face scrubs, toners, face washes, and serums. We’ll take two of everything, please.
5. Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys has had more than just a makeup-free moment or two. In fact, since 2016 the singer has committed to living a basically makeup-free lifestyle, and has fully embraced putting her natural face on full display. And she explained to fans in a public letter that it all began with a single photo shoot.
When taking pictures for her album “Here,” Keys and her photographer decided to keep the shoot makeup-free, allowing her to look just as raw as the music featured on her record. She claims it was “the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful” that she has ever felt, and decided to ditch the life of daily glam squads.
6. Gal Gadot
They say that stars are just like us, and actress Gal Gadot proves that this is true. She also has some us over here pretty much wishing we were just like her in this enviable makeup-free picture. In a post on Instagram, she gives us a behind the scenes look at her off set style, and a behind-the-scenes look at her chaotic life.
“Sleepless night, colic 3 months old baby and an early wake up by my 5 year old,” Gadot wrote on social media, but no one would be able to tell about her lack of sleep by this snap. In the past, Gadot let her secret go public and said she can credit her flawless skin to her commitment to drinking tons of water. So take a few sips while looking through the rest of these pictures.
7. Chrissy Teigen
Known for having some of the funniest commentary in Hollywood, model Chrissy Teigen posted this makeup-free shot on Instagram with the caption: “Movies in bed with my puddy buddy. And before a dog in bed gets you all riled up, just know that we stink equally.”
Luckily, since becoming a mother, Teigen’s witty personality has not changed, but Teigen does admit that her skin has. In an interview with Refinery29, she called the transformation of her skin post pregnancy to be “unexplainable,” and said that it is now much more sensitive. Let’s see if the other mothers on this list agree.
8. Gigi Hadid
It’s a mystery how a model maintains perfect skin while living the model lifestyle. Between the loads of makeup, the stress, and all of that airplane travel, it seems almost inhuman that models don’t ever seem to break out. Hadid’s trick is actually one that everyone can do themselves, with a product that everyone (should) have in their home.
With all of the expensive breakout solutions on the market now, anyone would guess that Hadid would use some top shelf product. Wrong! Hadid told Byrdie Magazine that she puts toothpaste on her pimples before she goes to sleep, and continues to do that.
9. Carrie Underwood
When country music star Carrie Underwood posted this photo to Instagram calling herself a “sweaty mess,” users across the Internet could not stop talking about how her skin looked completely flawless. But for anyone wanting in on her skincare secret and worried it will cost a ton, don’t sweat it. Her secret is actually pretty easy and cheap.
Underwood revealed that she began to see a huge difference in her skin after she ditched her expensive moisturizers and turned to an unlikely source. That source? Well, anyone can find it in their local grocery store. Underwood says coconut oil absorbs better into her skin without clogging her pores.
10. Bella Hadid
With the demanding travel and work schedule that comes with modeling, it’s no wonder that supermodels sometimes need to call in a sick day. And supermodel Bella Hadid was doing just that when she snapped and posted this picture on Instagram. But what is her secret to keeping her flawless skin even during the more exhausting days?
The younger Hadid sister described her airplane skincare routine with Harpers Bazaar. She explained that she starts every flight by washing her face (we presume it is in an airplane bathroom?) and then applying her serums and night creams. Then she repeats the process once she is about to land. With the sky high prices of some of the serums she advertises, at least they seem to be doing the trick.
11. Amy Schumer
One makeup trend that is definitely in right now: the makeup-free look. Even big named companies are trying to put out some options that give the illusion of wearing no makeup with flawless skin. But another big makeup trend is using organic, natural products. And Amy Schumer is on both of them.
Schumer endorsed the clean beauty brand Beautycounter and explained that her pregnancy changed her outlook on what she puts inside and on her body. She said she particularly loves the toxin-free lotions because their fragrance-free formula helped when she was having morning sickness. And she is not the only organic beauty lover on this list.
12. Demi Lovato
After nearly four months out of the spotlight as she was working on her health, Demi Lovato made a return to social media. In one of those pictures, fans were treated to seeing a glowing, fresh faced Lovato kicking some serious butt on her smize (smiling not only with your mouth but through using your eyes) and on her jiu-jitsu.
While the singer has taken some private time in the past, she has not been one to keep her beauty tips a secret. Here are just some of them: she does not use drug store makeup, she gets a facial once a month, and she’s let nobody, and we mean nobody, near her eyebrows since she was 15. And those are not the only eyebrow raising facts on this list.
13. Gwen Stefani
Besides her crazy vocal skills, Gwen Stefani is know for rocking her platinum blonde hair and usually a classic, bold red lip. But while she famously sang to fans that she’s “just a girl,” she is also a girl with a lucrative makeup contract with Revlon, and it is rare for fans to see the star without makeup.
But Stefani’s biggest beauty trick comes at the whopping price of completely free. She says her best beauty tip is to stay our of the sun. Once she hit her twenties, she started spending less time in the sun as a way to help prevent wrinkles and dark spots.
14. Nene Leakes
If anyone is looking for a woman who is shamelessly and unapologetically herself, look no further than reality star Nene Leakes. And if anyone is looking for someone who is not afraid to tell the haters off about her choice not to wear makeup, well, turn to Nene’s Instagram.
In a video where she announced additional stops and locations for her cross country tour and thanked her family and management, she also served up some on-brand realness and acknowledged her stripped down look. She told fans that she was “coming at you live from my bed no hair and no makeup.” Tell em, Nene!
15. Portia De Rossi
Could actress Portia De Rossi’s life get any better? This star, who is hilarious in her own right, gets to be married to Ellen DeGeneres and gets to go through life with seemingly flawless skin. Oh yeah, she also gets to hang out with horses on what she captioned her “idea of a perfect holiday.” Bring us along and it would be even more perfect.
This is not the first time that De Rossi posted a fresh faced picture online. She was also featured in a selfie that included both her and her wife, Ellen, sans makeup. De Rossi is all about embracing the feeling of being comfortable in your own skin. And with skin like this, who wouldn’t be?
Sometimes doing something as small and going makeup-free can be just the thing someone needs to embrace themselves fully. And for singer Kesha, who had been facing a whole lot of stress in her life, recharging meant learning how to love herself, and embracing her beauty right down to her freckles.
Kesha told her social media following that her resolution was to “love myself … just as I am…And to let me freckles liiiiiiive.” But this 2019 post was a long time coming. In 2015, she told Vogue that she hoped to one day embrace every inch of her body and “not try to cover up with makeup.” And even more celebrities today on this list are doing the same.
17. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra was announced as the first ever global brand ambassador for the skincare brand, Obagi. And between that contract and her newlywed status, the actress is glowing! But when it comes to Chopra’s skincare routine, she has plenty of really fun DIY tips that really anyone can master from their own home.
Chopra shared a few of them with Vogue. They include a sea salt lip treatment (literally just a mixture of sea salt, vegetable glycerin, and rose water), and a scalp treatment that mixes yogurt, honey, and an egg. She says these homemade tricks are rooted in her Indian heritage and have been used for centuries, so we think we trust it.
18. Sharon Stone
Sharon Stone is known for a lot of things, and being seemingly flawless is definitely one of them. And if anyone had any doubts, she proved them wrong with this makeup-free picture, featuring her equally flawless and cute French Bulldog, Joe.
And while anyone would be lucky to even come close to being the queen that Sharon Stone is, she has shared some tips that can get us just a little bit closer to reaching that goal. For example, she makes sure to keep the impurities on her face low by constantly carrying hand sanitizer. And for anyone who thinks this beauty tip is an unexpected but easy solution, wait for more of the red carpet ready tips to come.
With skin as radiant as Shakira’s, it is no wonder why the singer and incredible dancer posts a ton of makeup-free selfies on her social media. And whenever she is asked what gives her that glowing skin, she gives advice that we’d expect from any mom.
Her advice: take your vitamins. Shakira uses Vitamin C to brighten up her complexion and fill out her face along with Vitamin E, which anyone can get from any drugstore, to keep away wrinkles. But her biggest piece of advice? Don’t ever go to bed with makeup on, and always wear sunscreen. Now, those are some tricks that really anyone can use.
20. Jennifer Aniston
Usually actresses hire makeup artists and hair stylists to make sure they look perfect all of the time, without a hair out of place. But in the case of Jennifer Aniston on the set of the movie Cake, she decided to go the natural route and showcased her newly-dyed brunette hair.
Aniston decided to embrace her natural self by donning a laid back ensemble of baggie pants, a long sweater, and a t-shirt paired with a makeup-free face and hair deliberately styled down and flat. Despite the casual look and the fake scar for the film, it would be hard to guess that the actress did not have an ounce of makeup on her face. Better yet, Jen was bold enough to walk around with the scar without any shame.
21. Cara Delevingne
Model turned actress Cara Delevingne must live a stressful life as she balances filming movies and stomping down runways. Along with that, during her free time she has become a huge advocate for self acceptance and self confidence. But this comes after struggling for years with her own self image.
In multiple interviews, Delevingne has described trying to fit in with the demands of the fashion industry and her need for validation. That includes wearing all the right clothes and the right makeup. But now, Delevingne is all about embracing the skin she is in. And for all the times that she wants to put on a little makeup, she can turn to Rimmel London, who she has represented in the past.
22. Ashley Graham
Ashley Graham has been saying this for her entire modeling career: beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Usually, she has been using this message to break records in the realm of fashion, but she broke records in the beauty industry by becoming the first plus-sized model to land a major cosmetic contract in 2018.
But when Graham shared this, it became pretty apparent that she does not need an ounce of makeup. And when it comes to beauty tips, Graham suggests three simple things: staying hydrated, making sure to get in enough sleep, and staying out of the sun.
23. Jennifer Garner
Many people might assume that being a huge celebrity means that every day requires full makeup face applied by a full glam squad. But for actress Jennifer Garner, that is definitely not the daily routine. In fact, most days Garner tries to wear as little to no makeup as possible.
On the days that she does decide to put some makeup on, by nighttime she makes sure that it is all off before bed. And that is a beauty routine we hear often from celebrities. No matter how tired one is at the end of the night, make sure to wash all that concealer right off. It may cause a little less sleep, but it will also cause a lot less breakouts.
24. Salma Hayek
Sometimes all someone needs to get a good selfie shot is some good light. Actress Salma Hayek posted this photo on Instagram with the caption, “Wet hair, no make up, no filter, no retouch, but every good light.” And while lighting is important, we’re not sure we’d come out looking so glowing with just a well-placed light bulb.
But her secret to skincare is something that anyone can do. Unlike most of the stars on this list, she actually says that she never cleanses her skin in the morning. According to her grandmother, the skin replenishes overnight, and there is no need. Instead, she just adds a spritz of rose water and some moisturizer.
25. Katie Holmes
There are some stars in Hollywood that will spend hours with their glam squad getting their makeup just right before they start the day. And it sounds like an exhausting process! But there are some stars, like Katie Holmes, that prioritize getting a little extra sleep instead.
Holmes told makeup blog Into the Gloss that she’s learned to do her makeup quickly because she “prefers to sleep.” Instead, she waits until the last minute before she starts her 20 minute morning routine. And if that extra sleep does not do the trick, she carries just a little bit of blush in her purse for special occasions.
26. Boy George
Boy George has made a name for himself with his music, his DJ skills and his risky fashion designs. But more than anything, his signature style includes a whole lot of makeup. But seeing Boy George without his famous makeup on social media feels like fans are getting to see a whole new side of him.
Today, makeup brands are increasingly beginning to advertise their makeup to men. And Boy George was arguably one of the figures to start that trend, as he normalized the male makeup look. But this post proves that you can take the makeup off the man, but when that man is Boy George he is still fabulous.
27. Jennifer Lopez
Who does not want the J-Lo glow? It seems that no matter how much Jennifer Lopez grows up, she just will not stop glowing up as well. And this makeup free picture (should we mention there is also no filter?) is just more proof that her skin is truly enviable.
It seems we are not the only ones who notice that Jennifer Lopez has flawless skin. She told the Today Show that the question she is asked the most is about her skincare routine. Unfortunately, she thanks most of it to something money cannot buy: good genes. “My mom and my grandma had beautiful skin,” she said. Ugh, fine.
28. Jessica Biel
When you are Jessica Biel, we could have guessed that makeup is not necessary. And Biel proved that by posting this fresh faced photo on Instagram. Biel explained that she was displaying her self love in honor of her model friend, Kate Upton.
Upton, Biel explained, is “on a mission to encourage everyone to feel strong and love themselves as they are .. and I’m so honored to help spread that message.” We will say that we are honored that Biel graced our Instagram feeds with her makeup free snap. Her secret? She says that every girl should be armed with a seriously good cleanser.
29. Kourtney Kardashian
Kourtney Kardashian is known for being the one in the Kardashian Klan who is the most dedicated to clean everything – from eating clean to using natural skincare products. When it comes to caring for her skin, she wrote on her Poosh blog that she always goes chemical free.
Kardashian claims that using only products that are free of harmful chemical is not only a cleaner way to live, but its overall healthier for skin. And while that clean regime luckily includes an easily accessible $8 Free People lip balm, it also includes a $300 hyaluronic serum. That’s one pricey face.
30. Jessica Alba
The actress and Honest Company founder has some honestly flawless skin. But she has also been honest that her skin has not always been this way, and she has struggled with acne over the years. She claims that creating a consistent skin care routine changed everything for her.
It seems that today at least part of her skincare routine includes – you guessed it – her Honest beauty brand. Alba consistently posts photos of herself using Honest’s Vitamin C serum. She’s uploaded Instagram stories soaking in a bath in a mud mask. She’s basically living the skincare lovers’ dream, to be honest.
31. Drew Barrymore
What is the best way to celebrate your birthday? Well, for Drew Barrymore on her 44th birthday, she decided to ring it in by treating her Instagram followers to a makeup free selfie. So how can anyone look this good at 44? Barrymore says its simple.
First, the actress says that the key is to embrace aging rather than trying to hide it. The key is to age gracefully, she says. One way to do that is to get a good, reliable cleanser. But the most important step? Sunscreen, she says. Barrymore’s commitment to sunscreen may have sacrificed her tan, but we’d say her skin is definitely thanking her for it.
32. Gabrielle Union
It feels like just yesterday that Gabrielle Union and her East Compton Clovers were starring in Bring It On. And it might feel like just yesterday because, for Union, it looks like just yesterday. But no, Union has only kept herself just as flawless for over 19 years. We’re not bitter.
Union’s impeccable skin has been a huge topic in the beauty world, and for good reason. So how can we get the same look? Union says that everything starts with drinking water – and lots of it. She drinks at least a gallon of water every day. So, can someone get us some water, quick?
33. Sarah Hyland
There are some stars who try to act like their skin is just naturally always perfect and healthy. Then there are stars like Sarah Hyland, who is not even trying to play that game. She is perfectly honest about the fact that clear skin is a process.
Judging by a few selfies she has posted of her face covered in sheet masks (literally we mean a firming forehead mask, gold under eye patches and frown line masks), she tends to love Peter Thomas Roth products. And if those products are good enough for her, we would go ahead and say its good enough for us.
34. Tyra Banks
The key to a good makeup-free selfie is not just a solid smize. Apparently, it also includes some flawless skin. Tyra Banks posted this photo from her glamping vacation in Montana, along with a series of fresh faced snaps from her trip.
The supermodel is so dedicated to her skincare routine that she decided to come up with her own. Banks says her skin is dependent on a few things: daily exfoliation, a good night’s sleep and sticking to a regimen. When it comes to makeup, she recommends to replace foundation with a tinted moisturizer for lighter, healthier coverage that is still runway ready.
35. Bella Thorne
When a celebrity is as rich and famous as Bella Thorne, they can basically go to Sephora and pick just about anything to get fresh, glowing skin. But in reality, Thorne claims that she achieves her beautiful skin using products that almost anyone can find in their own home.
According to interviews, Thorne’s struggle with acne growing up led her to try a few unconventional methods that she has carried with her since. For example, she swears by a three ingredient DIY face mask that includes honey, coconut oil and cherries. And with all of the glitter makeup Thorne is famous for wearing, we trust that she knows a good mask to take all of that makeup away.
36. Tracee Ellis Ross
Do not let the effortless look of Tracee Ellis Ross’ skin fool you. She puts in a lot of effort to get her glow. How do we know? Ross is super open about it on her Instagram, frequently posting herself using face rollers and clay masks.
Anyone looking for a step by step guide to how to pull of looking this fabulous makeup free is in luck. Ross often posts her morning and nightly skin care routines on her Instagram stories, from her cleansing balms to her toners. Her social media is basically a beauty blog, and we definitely don’t hate it.

‘The Facts Of Life’ Behind The Scenes: 25 Little-Known Things About The Iconic 80s Sitcom
It’s been a while since we’ve had traditional, wholesome shows like The Facts Of Life. We all watched as Blair, Jo, Natalie, and Tootie navigated the tricky ups and downs of growing up – but things weren’t so wholesome behind the scenes. Disturbing tales have come up since the show aired.
TV Stars Who Were Suddenly Replaced Mid-Series By Other Actors – And People Weren’t Happy
Ever turn on a TV show only to discover that your favorite character has morphed into a completely new person? Unfortunately, this happens quite often, sometimes with actors getting fired mid-series due to conflicts behind the scenes. As popular as these shows were – these abrupt switcheroos threw people for a loop.
The Mob Boss Who Inspired ‘The Godfather’ Was Actually A Lot More Dangerous In Real Life
As exhilarating as it is to watch The Godfather, there’s nothing enjoyable about the real-life characters who inspired it. Gangsters were real people, vicious and dominant — and one of their supreme leaders was once Frank Costello. He was the inspiration behind Marlon Brando’s Vito Corleone in The Godfather, but the true story behind this mob boss is far less humanizing.
