With the swell of social media sites in the last decade, a precious Internet trend has become popularized: social media accounts for pets. If you aren’t following at least one adorable pet on social media, you’re not a true Instagrammer. From adorable puppies to quirky kitties to playful ferrets, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook have become a hub for animal videos and photos. Many people have grown attached to the creatures they keep track of online, from the famed Dog Rates Twitter account to the adored Instagram of Grumpy Cat. In 2019, a new cat’s Instagram began to make waves on the Internet due to unique markings that set them apart from other felines. You’ll struggle not to fall in love with Gringo, a British Shorthair with an incredibly classy mustache.
Gringo’s Special Markings
While every cat has a feature or trait that makes them special and unique, this kitty’s fur certainly stuns his admirers. Gringo lives in France with his humans, Sabrine and Romain, and their other cat, Milko. While the couple loves both of their cats for their personalities, it’s Gringo that’s adored for his markings online. So, what makes Gringo so special? Besides his playfulness, Gringo has a unique pattern on his chin. His face features a mustache of white fur, striking a stunning balance with his chocolate colored coat. In the opinion of his Internet fans, it’s his prized feature. In fact, it’s what made Sabrine and Romain fall in love with him in the first place.
Falling In Love With Gringo
Sabrine and Romain came to adore Gringo for his goofy personality, yet they first showed interest in adopting him because of his unique fur. They saw Gringo featured on a site for a French cattery and couldn’t resist his adorable little mustache. Luckily, despite already having Milko, the couple was in search of another cat to add to their feline family. They were able to adopt Gringo when he was merely three months old. Immediately, both Gringo’s humans and his new cat sibling fell in love with him. Gringo and Milko became the best of friends, frequently playing and snuggling together. The inseparable duo was beloved by their humans, who were both avid Instagrammers when it came to the two cats. Sabrine and Romain, who also had a successful Instagram account for Milko, decided to design an Instagram page for Gringo. Although they knew that Gringo was unique, they had no idea how famous their new cat would become online.
The Feline’s Viral Following
Online, Gringo rose to fame, acquiring close to 60,000 followers on Instagram. Sadly, Gringo’s account was hacked and stolen in early 2019, yet his new page racked in an incredible 28,000 followers across the course of two months. Gringo’s massive fanbase only continued to grow as more people fell in love with the feline’s face. Although Gringo quickly became famous online, he never let his reputation go to his head. He still behaved like any other cat, besides some quirks that made him even more loveable than he already was. “Gringo is a happy kitty, full of life and with a really nice personality,” Sabrine shared. “He loves to play all day and all night, get up to mischief like climbing on curtains, scratching the couch and jumping in the plants.” Apparently, Gringo also has a fascinating skill that still makes his owners giggle. “He likes to stand on his back paw, just like a meerkat. He can stay a couple of minutes in that position, and it’s hilarious.” His fun behaviors have made him a celebrity in his family, and his mustache continues to gain adoration for him online. Have you ever seen a cat with a mustache that’s so well polished?
