Google’s New Website Aims To Demystify Artifical Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are subjects that are increasingly discussed in tech circles. But what exactly are AI and ML, and why are they so important? Google has introduced a new website called “Learn with Google AI” that aims to help people understand how Artificial Intelligence works, learn about core machine learning concepts, develop skills, and apply AI to solve challenging real-world problems.

Explaining AI And ML

Mentioning artificial intelligence to the average person usually conjures up visions of robots that are trying to take over the world, computers that can outplay human chess champions or even cars that drive themselves.

By definition, the term AI is applied to the ability of a computer to perform operations similar to learning and decision making in humans. Machine Learning is a branch of artificial intelligence in which a computer generates rules underlying or based on raw data that has been fed into it.

Using AI

Most people have no idea that they use artificial intelligence every day. It’s used in everything from search engine results to handwriting and speech recognition software.

Functions such as tagging people in pictures or Netflix recommending a movie based on your watch history all fall under the definition of AI or machine learning.

Demystifying AI

With its new website, Google aims to demystify artificial intelligence and machine learning for beginners as well as provide advanced education and tools for those already familiar with the concepts. The site will provide educational resources that are developed by ML experts at the company, free of charge. Everything from full courses with interactive lessons and lectures to short resource videos and articles are available to anyone wishing to learn more.

“We believe it’s important that the development of AI reflects as diverse a range of human perspectives and needs as possible. So, Google AI is making it easier for everyone to learn ML by providing a huge range of free, in-depth educational content,” Zuri Kemp, Program Manager for Google’s machine learning education, said in a statement.
