Everyone longs for a canine companion that’ll last a lifetime. Unfortunately, dogs rarely last beyond a decade and a half. While our puppy pals aren’t forever, these cool dog breeds come pretty close to it. These amazing dogs have impressive life expectancies that will surpass the average dog, and ensure plenty of years of their companionship.

25. Shih Tzu – 10-16 Years

Some may regard these adorable gremlins as just another small dog to show off in Instagram photos. However, the Shih Tzu is a breed with a strong history. They originate from Tibet, but made a name for themselves in China when the Dalai Lama gave one to the Chinese Emperor in the 17th century.

Shih Tzus were regarded as royalty and were not to be owned by anyone outside of royalty. These unique-looking dogs are pretty amazing. They are sweet by nature, highly intelligent, and have very soft fur. They also have time on their side, as they can go on to live for up to 15 years.
