Empathetic Therapy Corgi Warming A Grieving Stranger’s Heart At The Airport Proves Dogs Truly Are Our Best Friends

Dogs have been known to be incredible at detecting the emotions of their human friends. When it comes to Cora the corgi, she seemingly has a gift for lifting up those in pain. And when she wandered away from her owner in the airport, she didn’t do so mistakenly… she found someone who desperately needed her love.

Fostering Cora The Corgi

When Madison Palm first decided to foster Cora the corgi, she didn’t know what to expect. After all, the pup had spent the first seven years of her life under the care of a neglectful breeder. After such traumatic life experiences, Palm was worried that she might struggle to be trusting and vulnerable. However, Cora crawled into Palm’s lap as soon as she picked her up to foster her. She seemingly had nothing but love to offer!

Palm soon found that Cora was incredibly empathic, super sweet, and extremely sociable. Cora proved to be anxiety-quelling almost immediately. Eventually, Palm decided to adopt the stranger-savvy pup and put her through training to become a therapy dog. And when she decided to take Cora along on a flight, the loving pup couldn’t make it through the airport without pausing to comfort someone.

Cora’s Incredible Gift Of Empathy

Thanks to how calming Cora was, Palm brought her along on all of her travels. However, during a Seattle layover on their trip to visit Palm’s mother in Alaska, it wasn’t Palm that needed stress-relief. As her unassuming owner began to get settled down at their gate, Cora had just begun an independent mission: to toddle over to comfort a man sitting all alone.

When Palm glanced back up in search of Cora, she found her graciously getting belly rubs from the lonely man. Since not everyone is fine with a dog in their space, Palm was quick to ask if Cora’s presence was bothering him. Soon, and several tearful words later, it was clear that wasn’t the case. In fact, he needed Cora’s presence more than ever.

Embracing Her Role: ‘She Knows Who Needs Her’

Cora’s special skills of empathy clearly led her to that man, who replied: “No, no. I lost my dog last night.” In the minutes that followed, he gratefully pet Cora, told her how adorable she was, and took a couple pics of the pup. All the while, Cora sat patiently at his feet and did her best to lift up the suffering stranger.

Palm was immensely proud of her sweet corgi for her caring actions. However, she wasn’t surprised that she took the initiative to go comfort the stranger. “She knows who is hurting and she knows who needs her,” she described in a touching Facebook post. It’s hard to deny that Cora has a gift. Or, at the very least, that she’s a gift to those around her.
