This Adorable Grandpa Visits An Animal Shelter Every Day And Naps With Cats

Terry Lauerman isn’t your average animal shelter volunteer. The 75-year-old Wisconsin man visits Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary each day to brush felines without a home. Then, after brushes the cats for a bit, Lauerman typically dozes off. What follows is nothing short of adorable.

Man On A Mission

Although Lauerman is well-known at the shelter for his cat naps, he didn’t visit the shelter with the intention to snooze. Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary founder, Elizabeth Feldhausen, said Lauerman walked into the shelter just six months ago with a brush in hand, looking for cats to love.

“He just walked in and started brushing,” Feldhausen said. “So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him fill out our volunteer form.”

The Snooze And Switch

During his daily visits, Lauerman stays at the sanctuary for about three hours. He will groom a cat for a while and then doze off. “[He sleeps for] about an hour, then he’ll wake up and switch cats,” said Feldhausen.

Lauerman is quite fond of brushing his feline friends. “He said, [the brushing is] as great of an experience for him, as it is for them,” Feldhausen said.

A Sleepy Sanctuary Staple

Given how adorable Lauerman looks while he’s sleeping with the kitties, the sanctuary decided to give him a shout out on Facebook. “We are so lucky to have a human like Terry,” Feldhausen said in the post. “Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats.”

“Eventually, it became every day” Feldhausen continued. “He brushes all of the cats and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don’t mind – cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer.”
