Guys Are Using Snapchat’s Gender Swap Filter, And The Internet Can’t Tell The Difference

Updated on

Have you ever swiped right on Tinder and thought you found “the one?” Well, that happened to over 300 men recently, except that the beautiful woman they thought was a lady was actually a man! Yes, you read that correctly. Find out how one man used Snapchat’s gender swap filter to catfish 300 guys on Tinder.

Gender Bender

With the popularity of dating apps like Tinder and OkCupid, it’s become commonplace to find potential love interests online. And if you’ve seen MTV’s hit show Catfish, then you’ll know just how easy it is to trick people using the internet nowadays. British hipster Jake Askew found this out one night when he was playing around with the fun filters on Snapchat. He shared his adventures with the world on his Twitter profile @J_Askew.

Using the app’s gender bender feature, Jake turned himself into a pretty attractive woman in no time. Impressed with his avatar, he told LadBible “To be fair I looked at myself with the Snapchat filter on and thought I looked unreal, showed my mate and we thought we’d make a Tinder just to see if I’d get any matches from it… Obviously didn’t expect to be liked by over 1,600 thirsty lads.”

Perfect Match

Surprised by the number of men that hit him up, Jake decided to have some fun with the app and chat them up. Of course, he never let on that he was one of them. Changing his name to “Jess,” his profile claimed that he was a 19-year-old college girl from the University of Derby. Within an hour of his social media experiment, his inbox was full AF. He cheerily posted on Twitter that “within an hour [he] was the most popular girl in Derby.” He was shocked at all the cheesy pick-up lines that he received, like “you look absolutely beautiful 😉 xxx”

And Jake’s not the only man who’s doing this, by the way. British Twitter user @_jordanryann ‏also turned himself into a super cute woman filter and fooled men as well. He was impressed when one man dressed as a server from Medieval Times offered to take him on an all-expenses-paid trip to America. He jokingly tweeted, “Posing on Tinder using the girl filter and already been offered to travel around America with someone.” Another Twitter user, @MoshWithTyler, pulled the same prank and actually ended up sympathizing with women in the end. He empathized on Twitter “I feel for you women everywhere if this is what your inboxes actually look like.” We call that a win-win!

Twitter user @Cans4Hans also had a blast watching her brother Garrett transform himself into a woman for the internet’s sake. Hilariously, Garrett called himself “Michelle” and claimed that he was a 20-year-old girl who loved cocktails on the beach. His shirtless profile picture featured his beautiful new face on top of some eerily sculpted shoulders. With his Adam’s apple fully blurred, he proceeded to confuse multiple men with his new appearance. His sister @Cans4Hans mused on Twitter, “HOW do these men think that is a real woman’s face??” His inbox literally blew up within minutes!

Detroit-based DJ @MohimenMahbuba ‏basically had the same experience when he tried the silly stunt. Using Snapchat’s woman filter, he magically turned himself into a gorgeous woman with a cute black bob and an amazing tan. Within 30 minutes of playing around on Tinder, his profile already had 168 likes. Bombarded with hundreds of funny messages, he had this to say about his test: “Used the Snapchat filter on Tinder for 30 minutes, and in conclusion I hate men.” ‘Enough said.

Social media response has been surprisingly hilarious! Twitter user @J_Askew’s post about his gender swap trick received 14,000 likes, 1,400 retweets, and over 100 comments!

Twitter user @luaisuliman10 jokingly tweeted, “LMAOOOO men are dogs”

Twitter user @BethJonesy5 sarcastically jested, “what a fab idea”

Twitter user @DJDixon90 hilariously wondered, “shall I do it with mine?”
