Heroic Nurse Drives Through California Wildfires To Save Patients, Gets New Truck From Toyota
A brave nurse stormed through a wildfire in California to save other victims, using his pick-up truck to navigating through the flames. He and several others miraculously made it out alright, but his truck was badly scorched. When Toyota – the manufacturer of his vehicle – heard his story, the motor giant stepped in to return the gesture.
A Devastating Fire
The state of California has been battling huge wildfires, which have killed at least 42 people and burned 117,000 acres of land since November 7 or 8. While trying to escape, nurse Allyn Pierce found himself trapped in traffic in Paradise, CA, as the flames raged around him. “I just kept thinking, ‘I’m going to die in melting plastic,” he admitted. Allyn even recorded a goodbye message to his family.
In the nick of time, a bulldozer came out of nowhere and moved a burning vehicle out of Allyn’s way. That save gave him just enough space to drive away from the fires. However, Allyn made a brave move to not just save himself, but to attempt to help others as well.
Braving The Flames
Instead of hightailing it to safety, Allyn made a U-turn back to Adventist Health – the medical center where he worked in the fire-ravage city of Paradise, California. Heroically driving through wildfire in his Toyota Tundra, he wanted to help rescue and provide medical assistance to as many patients and victims as possible.
Allyn definitely helped save lives on this day, and his own was spared as well. He credited Toyota for the durability of his Tundra, sharing, “This truck literally saved my life today.” However, the truck took quite a beating. It was burned beyond repair in the fire.
Rewarding A Hero
When Allyn posted a picture of the charred truck and shared his story on Instagram, it quickly went viral. Representatives at Toyota themselves heard about this brave hero who had used one of the company’s trucks to save others. The company replied to his post, “We are humbled you’d risk your life and Toyota Tundra to drive people to safety. Don’t worry about the truck, we’re honored to get you a new one!”
Not only will Allyn receive a new truck, but a GoFundMe has also been set up to help him and his family rebuild after the fire. In just a short amount of time, over $25,000 has been raised! Truly well-deserved for this heroic nurse who stayed true to his commitment to helping those in need.
