Lost Dogs Come Home After Owners Cook Their Favorite Food
After being lost for four days, two Miniature Schnauzers named Charlie and Theo found their way home again after their owners began cooking sausages near the location where they both went missing.
According to The Telegraph, the dogs, who are actually father and son, got lost in thick fog while the owners’ son, John Hampson, was walking them near Cumbria in northern England.
John immediately called his mother, Liz Hampson, to tell her about the terrible news and to instantly form a search team.
“I was beside myself when John called,” recalled Liz, who said the dogs are used to walking without a leash if there are no other animals around.
“It was a horrible phone call. We called our family and messaged friends and put out an appeal for people to look out for them on Facebook and Twitter,” she added.
Their appeal to family and friends did not fall on deaf ears as over a hundred people responded to their call to find the lost pooches.
Liz noted that “An awful lot of people responded. Groups of extended family and friends went out, and people from the local community who know the dogs.”
Unfortunately, after searching for four days to no avail, the family decided on one last strategy, to lure the dogs with the smell of their favorite food — sausages.
Liz and her husband, Graham, cooked sausages near the place where the furry duo went missing and started calling the names of their dogs.
While the couple planned on staying overnight, they were surprised and relieved that it didn’t take long for the dogs to respond.
Liz said that “When they first appeared it was like a mirage. I could not believe it was them. My husband ran up the hill to grab them as I was just shaking and crying. I could not function.”
“The dogs are just gorgeous, and they are part of our family,” she said. “It would be horrible not to have them around.”
