Have you ever wondered what you look like as a cartoon character or as Betty Boop? Now, thanks to a new social media craze, you can finally transform your face into a caricature. Just when you thought you couldn’t find anything else to do during the COVID-19 pandemic, you’re in luck.
In April 2020, popular YouTuber and makeup artist Jaime French impressed viewers when she drew a tiny face just on her nose. The video was dubbed the “tiny face challenge.” She created a cute, humorous look many have wanted to try. Once she pulled a turtleneck sweater over her mouth, she looked like a completely different person. She referred to this as the perfect quarantine makeup trend.
Quarantine Makeup Trend
When you go to the grocery store or out in public, it’s recommended to wear a face mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people have designed decorative masks to still look fashionable during this time. However, it can still be disheartening to cover your mouth with a mask.
That’s why French (who has close to 190,000 subscribers) created the “tiny face challenge.” By drawing another face on her nose, once she covered her mouth with a mask, she still looked like she had a complete face. Her demonstration video went viral, reaching 446,000 views. People were amazed by how she pulled off this unique look.
For example, YouTube user R M92 jokingly remarked, “You look like a ‘Guess Who’ character. ‘Does she have a tiny nose?’” Another user, Eric Gormly, said, “This needs to be nominated for Best Special/Makeup Effects at next year’s Oscars. Thanks for the lockdown laughs.” Finally, the user Angelina commented, “This made my day. I literally laughed so much out loud. You are the most wonderful breath of fresh air during this quarantine, hands down!”
Everyone found the video humorous—and it is a funny video. French may have been demonstrating a new makeup trend, but she was also comical and didn’t take it too seriously. But you’re probably wanting to try it yourself. So, how do you get a tiny face? Are you ready to try it?
Completing The Challenge
To begin, draw a nose on your, well, nose—about halfway down to the bridge. This will require some blending and shading. To make her entire face appear smaller and better fit for the new appearance, French also contoured her forehead.
Then, you need to turn the base of your nose into your mouth/lips. The upper lip will be on the end of your nose and the lower lip will be drawn directly below. French even drew an impressive Cupid’s bow for her lips.
After completing the lip shape, color the lips in with bright lipstick. Of course, red is a bold choice, but you can choose whichever color you prefer. At this point, your tiny face should look very realistic. You can finish by completing the rest of your makeup—contouring your cheeks and touching up your eye makeup.
It’s important to cover up your real mouth with a scarf or mask. If you don’t, you would look pretty terrifying. Your face is supposed to look tiny, not frightening. It might be comical (and it will be), but it shouldn’t scare people.
Laughing At Herself
French laughed at herself at the end of her video. She said, “I could totally go to the grocery store and my mouth will be covered like this. If someone looks at me weird, I’ll be like, ‘What? It’s corona!’”
Finally, to be even funnier, French ended the video by dancing around while wearing her tiny face. She said she was thirsty, so she tried to take a drink with her fake lips. She said, “Help me.” At least everyone got a much-needed laugh out of this.
