Mom Makes Viral Post Calling For Internet Technician To Get A Raise After Helping Her Sooth Blind Son

Updated on

Jessica Nash Donnahoo was having a challenging day. She had household chores to finish all while caring for her three-year-old son, Sailor, and her two-year-old daughter, Sunny. Sailor was having a rough day because he has multiple life-altering diseases, and he didn’t get much sleep the night before. To make matters worse, the Spectrum Internet technician was scheduled to come that day. Fortunately, when technician Robert Kinney showed up to help with the Internet, he ended up helping Sailor too.

Sailor Needs Sleep

Sailor is blind because of optic nerve hypoplasia. Bedtime is hard for any toddler, but it’s especially difficult for Sailor because his body doesn’t recognize the difference between night and day. Some nights, he can’t sleep, and he’d had a rough night before the Spectrum man came.

Jessica was trying to care for two children, be available for any questions Robert, the Spectrum employee had, and do laundry at the same time. She was obviously frazzled and Sailor was crying as well.

Beyond The Call Of Duty

Robert Kinney was the perfect Spectrum employee for the job! Rather than ignoring Sailor, he put down his tools and picked up the young boy. Robert cradled sailor in his arms until he stopped crying. Jessica was so thankful for Robert’s help that she made a viral Facebook post about him. She thanked him for going far beyond his job description and making a rough day better for both herself and her son. She also suggested that Spectrum give him some kind of recognition or promotion for his kindness.

Making An Impact

As things turned out, the Vice President of Spectrum, Phillip Meeks, is also the parent of a child with special needs. When he read the story, he was very touched by Robert’s actions. He called both Robert and Jessica to express his thanks for both living the story and sharing it. Small kindnesses can make a big difference.
