The Beautiful Moment A Man With Cerebral Palsy Was Surprised With His Very First Beach Vacation
An Alabama man had been housebound with cerebral palsy since he was 16. Now 36, he still had dreams of venturing out to enjoy the beach one day. Thanks to a few good friends, his dream finally came true!
David Thomas hadn’t left his house in 20 years. Even with his cerebral palsy, he still wanted to experience a day at the beach for himself. He even talked about it often with loved ones. The problem was that his wheelchair was unable to navigate sand. Plus, he lived about 250 miles from any ocean.
David’s best friend, Izas Fuller, knew just how badly his friend needed that trip. “I just really wanted him to experience firsthand what it’s like to be in such a beautiful place,” Izas said in an interview. So he got to work on an idea that would finally get David to the ocean.
Thinking Of A Master Plan
Izas decided that he would surprise his best friend with a trip to Panama City Beach in Florida. However, he still had to figure out logistics. Izas then found a company that would rent him a special wheelchair for David that could power through the sand.
He turned to friends on Facebook to help raise money for the rental cost for two days. In total, the friends were able to raise $170. And then, when the rental company heard David’s story, it threw in two extra days for free! Now Izas just had to surprise David.
Soaking Up The Sun
Izas then surprised David with the news of their beach trip. David was absolutely grateful and ecstatic! They soon traveled to Panama City Beach, where David was able to look out and ride his new wheelchair out by the water.
Once he got out to the beach, David touched the sand for the first time and rode close by the water. The moment had the man completely in awe. “It took me years to get here but God made a way for me to get here,” he said in an interview. “I never imagined it looking like this, but it’s beautiful. I love it and don’t want to go home.”
