Morgan Freeman Transformed His Mississippi Ranch Into A Honey Bee Paradise And Fans Were Buzzing With Praise

Morgan Freeman is flexing his philanthropic muscles on a new mission: beekeeping. The legendary actor and the voice of God Himself (cue Bruce Almighty reference) has ventured into the world of beekeeping by converting his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi into a paradise for honey bees.

Save The Bees

Freeman, now 81, has already transferred 26 bee hives from Arkansas to his Mississippi ranch. He has also cultivated agriculture that bees love, such as magnolia trees, lavender, and clover. Not only that, he personally feeds the bees sugar water without any intent to harvest their delicious byproduct.

The Driving Miss Daisy star has been developing his beekeeping skills since 2014. He had previously made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to discuss his love of bees.

Sweet Like Honey

Surprisingly, Freeman does not even wear a beekeeper’s suit or hat when he spends time with his colony. So far, he hasn’t been stung once. Freeman revealed to Fallon that, “‘They haven’t [stung me] yet, because right now I’m not trying to harvest honey or anything, I’m just feeding them… I think they understand, ‘Hey, don’t bother this guy, he’s got sugar water here.'”

Freeman’s bees have an abundance of choices when it comes to their nectar. The actor has employed a gardener who makes sure that the bees have their fair share of the gorgeous crops that grow on Freeman’s ranch.

Back To Nature

Bees have been on the decline recently due to parasites, pesticides, and habitat loss. The E.P.A. has diagnosed Colony Collapse Disorder as the primary cause of the disappearance of bees over the last five years.

Freeman is doing his part to save the bees that are so vital to this world. He shared that, “There is a concerted effort for bringing bees back onto the planet…We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation…”

Social Media Reactions Were Extremely Positive

@weloveuusa wrote on Twitter, “Bees play an important role in sustaining #lifeonland, so we thank Mr. Morgan Freeman for his action towards #Goal15.

@BeelineMktg commented, “Who said Morgan Freeman was only important because of his acting or his voice? Keep BEEING you, sir! ”
