One afternoon, a nun walked into a Hooters restaurant to use the bathroom. Yeah, it does sound like the setup of a bad joke. Nonetheless, the patrons of this Hooter’s restaurant applauded the nun’s curiosity and this story quickly went viral.
Nun In A Hooters?
Whenever we usually think of nuns, we think of women in big, black habits that live cloistered away from modern society. We usually don’t think that they explore outside of the convent and join our normal, everyday lives. Of course, not all nuns are cloistered, and many of them live lives that are sort of similar to our own. Even so, sometimes we forget that nuns are normal people just like us, and anyone can get caught and need to find the closest place to use the bathroom. Now, we’re not sure if this story really happened or is just a joke from someone’s imagination. Either way, this story has given laughs to people all over the Internet.
At a Hooters restaurant, the place was filled with upbeat music and boisterous conversations. Every so often, the lights would turn off; every time the lights went out, the crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Whenever the guests saw the nun enter the restaurant, they all became deathly quiet, probably in shock. She walked up to the bartender and politely asked, “May I please use the restroom?” The bartender told her that she could but wanted to warn her because “there is a statue of a naked man in there wearing only a fig leaf.” The nun smartly responded, “Well, in that case, I’ll just look the other way.” So, the bartender showed the nun the restroom which was in the back of the restaurant.
The nun came back into the main room of the restaurant after a few minutes, and all the guests gave the nun a loud and rowdy round of applause. Understandably, the nun was baffled by the crowd’s reactions, so she went to find some answers. She told the bartender, “Sir, I don’t understand. Why did they applaud for me just because I went to the restroom?” The bartender replied, “Well, now they know you’re one of us. Would you like a drink?” The nun was even more puzzled by this response. She said, “No thank you, but I still don’t understand.” The bartender laughed and said, “Every time someone lifts the fig leaf on that statue the lights go out. Now, how about that drink?”
This story is not only incredibly funny but also shows that people are people no matter what they do for a living, even if they are nuns. Our curiosities are powerful forces, the nun’s curiosity was just as peaked as anyone else’s. So, even though the nun lived a religious lifestyle, she wasn’t so different from everyone else in the restaurant. This story quickly became viral and is still posted all over the internet, including Reddit, and people were highly amused by it.
One user commented, “hehehe…curiosity killed the cat…” Other users were comparing Hooters to other restaurants such as The Safe House in Milwaukee, Poor Paul’s Pourhouse in Tallahassee, and Trapper John’s in Victoria, BC. They shared stories about how people, including themselves and their family members, have found themselves in the same situation as our nun in the story. However, one user was speculating about the important question: “I’m wondering how long the lights were out lol.”
Even though the Sister Act may have connected us to nuns, there is still a divide. This viral story certainly shows how connected humanity is while giving us a great laugh.
