Passenger Hail Pilot Who Ordered 23 Pizzas For Flight Stranded On Tarmac

What does a good pilot do to raise the spirits of passengers who are stuck on a parked plane for hours? He throws a pizza party, of course.

Pizza Makes Everything Better

Well, at least that’s what the pilot of an Air Canada Flight 608 did after his plane was stuck on a tarmac for several hours due to snow. Passengers were beginning to get uneasy when their Halifax bound flight had to be diverted to Fredericton, New Brunswick due to the bad weather.

The flight captain decided to order 23 pizzas and have them delivered to the airplane to help ease some of the tension on his plane. After all, pizza fixes everything.

You Want Us To Deliver Where?

It was the first time Minglers Restaurant and Pub in Oromocto had ever delivered pizzas to a plane. But they were happy to do so and had them delivered in about an hour.

Manager Jofee Larivée said the crew at Minglers was “laughing all night” about the unusual request. Minglers owner Roch Larivée said that even though they were short staffed on that stormy night, they were happy to know they could ease some of the passengers’ aggravation with a delivery of their delicious cheesy pizzas.

A Little Courtesy Goes A Long Way

Larivée said he just hoped that everyone enjoyed their pizza. And they certainly did according to passenger Philomena Hughes. “It was something that could have been very stressful. He made it a lot easier,” she said. “There was lots of help, there were a couple of Air Canada Jazz pilots that were traveling on the plane and they were helping to pick up the pizza and distribute it. Everybody chipped in, so he didn’t want to take the whole credit for himself.”

Hughes also credited the pilot with making sure everyone on board was informed during the eight hours that they were on the plane since it boarded in Toronto. The well-mannered pilot also made sure to give Mingler’s a call to thank them for coming through with his unusual request. Something as simple as a gesture of kindness and food made this pilot the hero of his people.
