Would You Share a $1m. Lottery Win With Coworkers? This Woman Did
It’s a classic question that we’ve all dreamt about: What would you do if you won a million dollars? Would you give it away to the people you work with, perhaps? We’ll go out on a limb and guess that your honest answer would be “absolutely not!”
The Most Generous Woman In America?
Lynn Nelson of Taunton, Massachusetts is a much more generous person than most, though. She had an opportunity to prove it when she recently won fifth prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery “Hit $1,000” game. The winnings? A cool $1,000,000!
While most lottery winners might buy a home, fund an epic trip around the world, or do something else selfishly awesome, Lynn decided to be generous and share her winnings with five of her co-workers. We could understand giving away a few hundred here and there—maybe even a thousand or two if someone was feeling extra generous—but not splitting huge winnings like this five ways!
All we can say is we hope those are her only co-workers, or there will likely be some unrest in the office going forward…
Hitting The Jackpot
After taxes, Lynn’s winnings totaled out to $430,000, as she chose the immediate cash payout. The winning ticket was bought at the Massachusetts State Lottery Regional Office in New Bedford, pictured below.
Curious about your chances of winning a similar prize? Don’t be too confident in an outcome like Lynn’s. The odds of winning the $1 million jackpot in this game are roughly 2.1 million to 1. You’ll need to purchase a lot of tickets to have any chance at winning that prize!
So, for real, what would you do if you won a million dollars? Are you as generous as Lynn?
