‘Till death do them part? For these celebrities, not so much.
Here are the shortest celebrity marriages your favorite Hollywood stars have ever gone through. And if you’re considering a last-minute Vegas wedding: please view these as cautionary tales. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Jennifer Lopez and Ojani Noa
Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got, she’s still, she’s still Jenny from the block. And in 1997, Jennifer Lopez proved she didn’t care about celebrity status in love, marrying unknown server Ojani Noa.
Unfortunately they divorced just 11 months later — but their story had just begun.
While they were married, Lopez had Noa sign a confidentiality agreement that forbade him from speaking publicly about any private details. When they divorced, Noa immediately broke it, threatening to write a tell-all book and release a honeymoon video. The two have been in bitter legal battles ever since.
Audrina Patridge and Corey Bohan
Audrina Patridge is used to drama. She blew up in MTV’s beach chic reality blockbuster The Hills, before toplining her own show in VH1’s Audrina. Unfortunately, the familiar sensation of drama arrived even in her brief marriage to BMX biker Corey Bohan.
Bohan began the marriage with an appealingly old-fashioned style, asking Patridge’s parents for permission. But then 10 months later, Patridge filed not just for divorce, but for a restraining order against Bohan. Apparently, Bohan began behaving erratically violent toward himself, Patridge, and their daughter.
Axl Rose and Erin Everly
You’ve sang your heart out to Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” But do you know who it’s about?
Axl Rose wrote it about Erin Everly, daughter of The Everly Brothers’ Don Everly, and she appears in the music video. They had a Vegas wedding in April of 1990.
One month later, Everly filed for divorce. Then, the couple reconciled and tried to start a family together. But after Everly suffered a miscarriage, and Rose started acting erratically, their divorce became official eight months after their wedding. Everly later sued Rose for abuse; the ex-couple settled out of court.
Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen
“It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible.” Goodness gracious, what on earth could The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss be talking about?
It may surprise fans of the Portlandia comedian, but she’s referring to her eight month marriage to Fred Armisen.
Armisen agrees that their marriage was toxic, telling Howard Stern frankly he believes he was a bad husband. He shared that he loves to jump into relationships quickly before panicking: “I freak out emotionally and then I actually feel like ‘Oh my God, who’s this stranger in my house?’”
Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly
1994 was a huge year for Jim Carrey. He starred in The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Dumb and Dumber. On the set of that last film, he met Lauren Holly, who played his love interest. This onscreen romance turned real when they wed in September of 1996.
Eight months later, the marriage ceased to be.
There were numerous factors at play — Holly was jealous of Carrey’s career, Carrey was jealous of Holly’s relationship with filmmaker Edward Burns, and Carrey had a bit of a reputation for having a temper.
Elizabeth Taylor and Conrad Hilton Jr.
Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times, twice to the same person. So you could say she’s used to the whole ordeal. But her very first marriage, to hotel heir Conrad Hilton Jr. (who often went by Nicky), was also her shortest one.
It took eight months for Taylor to realize she and Hilton were incompatible.
While their 1950 wedding was a huge show biz affair, organized and publicized by MGM, Hilton abused alcohol and behaved violently toward Taylor during their actual marriage. They divorced in January of 1951.
Luann de Lesseps and Tom D’Agostino Jr.
Luann de Lesseps is the Countess of The Real Housewives of New York City. And we mean that literally — her 16-year marriage to Count Alexandre de Lesseps gives her the designation of “Countess” legally. But after that marriage ended in Alexandre’s alleged affair, Luann moved on to Tom D’Agostino Jr.
The entrepreneur married de Lesseps on his 50th birthday, and it was televised for all to see on RHONY. But eight months later, after de Lesseps dodged rumors of D’Agostino’s history with infidelity (again, all televised on RHONY), the couple filed for divorce.
Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd
Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd made beautiful music together.
That’s not some flowery metaphor — Lopez met her second husband while he was dancing for her “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” video, and the two later wrote the song “Alive” together. But all music comes to an end eventually.
For Judd and Lopez, the marriage lasted 213 days, a little over seven months. Many believed Lopez fell in love with Ben Affleck while filming Gigli, spurring their abrupt divorce. Since then, Judd has continued working as a dancer and choreographer.
Drew Barrymore and Tom Green
In October 2000, Tom Green made a cameo in Drew Barrymore’s big-screen Charlie’s Angels adaptation. In April 2001, Barrymore made a cameo in Green’s comic fever dream Freddy Got Fingered. And in December 2001, Green filed for divorce from Barrymore.
What happened during their free-spirited, 166-day marriage?
The two bonded on the set of Charlie’s Angels, and began dating soon after — some LA residents may have seen them out on the town dressed in drag. Their marriage even stood Green’s struggles with testicular cancer. Ultimately, though, it was just too soon and too dramatic for both actors.
Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush
Ever ran into your ex after a breakup? Awkward, right? Now multiply those feelings by eight million, and you’ll get close to how Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray must’ve felt returning to work on One Tree Hill after the end of their 165-day marriage.
Reportedly, the costars’ off-screen romance ended when Murray cheated on Bush with Paris Hilton on the set of House of Wax (2005). Bush was forthcoming on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: “We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place.”
Shannen Doherty and Ashley Hamilton
Ah, young love. The rush of romance. The feeling like anything is possible. The… confusion and panic?
When 22-year-old Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty got hitched to 19-year-old Ashley Hamilton, son of famed actor George, their guests were shell-shocked.
Doherty actually squeezed in her private ceremony during a shoot day on 90210. Hamilton’s friends were largely unhappy. One of them put it clearly: “I have no idea why he would do this.” Six months later, Hamilton came to the same conclusion, and filed for divorce from Doherty.
Charlie Sheen and Donna Peele
When most folks announce their upcoming wedding, they use invitations or clever Instagram posts. Charlie Sheen announced he was getting married to model Donna Peele in court. Testifying about a hidden Hollywood prostitution ring. That he was a regular patron of.
Not quite sure if that qualifies as “winning.”
Sheen met Peele while filming a 1995 cigarette commercial. Six weeks later, they tied the knot in a lavish ceremony. And 145 days later, they called it quits.
Why didn’t it work out? Sheen’s metaphor speaks for itself: “You buy a car, it breaks down, what are you gonna do?”
Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock
When rap-rock superstar Kid Rock and Baywatch superstar Pamela Anderson announced their marriage, we have to imagine all of America went, “Yep, makes sense.”
Anderson, rebounding from her fraught marriage to Tommy Lee, was over the moon, writing on her blog, “I feel like I’m finally free … I’m in love.”
However, just 122 days later, Kid Rock filed for divorce from Anderson. Why? Believe it or not, blame Borat.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 satire features a memorable cameo from Anderson. And when Kid Rock saw it, he apparently became so mad that he had no choice but to divorce.
Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito
Bradley Cooper may be far from the shallow now, but he wasn’t far from his marriage to actor Jennifer Esposito when they got divorced. Four months, to be exact.
Their love affair, however short, was marked by privacy. When asked if they were dating, Esposito responded, “I’m not answering that.”
Their wedding had little fanfare — and frankly, neither did their divorce. When Howard Stern pressed Cooper for any juicy details, he simply said, “It was just something that happened. The good thing is, we both realized it. Things happened!”
Looks like a healthy way to process divorce is born.
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger met at a benefit event for tsunami relief. Four months later, they got married. And four months after that, they got divorced. How did Chesney and Zellweger’s marriage change from major to minor chords so quickly?
In a word: Fraud.
When Zellweger dropped that word in the legal proceedings of her divorce from the country star, the press went wild. Accusations and rumors swirled around, with many guessing Chesney was hiding his true sexual orientation. Zellweger insisted it was just a formality, and criticized the inherent homophobia of such rumors.
Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley
Nicolas Cage is a huge Elvis Presley fan. So much so that his film Honeymoon in Vegas has a bunch of Elvises, and his performance in Wild At Heart is based on the King. Later, Cage married Elvis’ daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.
Was that on his vision board?
Unfortunately, Cage and Presley’s marriage only lasted 107 days. Their divorce was relatively smooth, with neither person making a case for the other’s money or assets. Both people were previously married to other celebrities — Cage to Patricia Arquette, and Presley to Michael Jackson.
Eminem and Kim Mathers
If you wanted to chart the romantic relationship between Marshall “Eminem” Mathers’ and Kim, just listen to any of his music. Eminem has crafted lots of intense, complicated, and frankly violent songs about the mother of his daughter. And yet, the two were still married.
Their first marriage lasted two years, after a long relationship that began in high school. Then, in January of 2006, they got remarried, having seemingly reconciled. But just three months later, they realized their mistake and got divorced again.
Hey Eminem — you seeing a therapist, bro?
Nicky Hilton and Todd Meister
Hotel heiress and fashion designer Nicky Hilton is now a member of not one, but two colossally powerful American families. First, the Hiltons, obviously. Second, the Rothschilds, thanks to her marriage to businessman James Rothschild. But before this powerful merger, Hilton had another, more short-lived marriage.
Hilton had been friends with Todd Meister, a New York-based businessman, since childhood. And at 2:30am on August 15, 2004, they got married on a whim in Las Vegas. It was a barn-burner of a party, but it couldn’t last. 85 days later, the two had their marriage annulled.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
When most couples get married, they register at Target. When Kim Kardashian gets married, she has a full camera crew document every step, creates a new fragrance, and throws it all on E! for the world to see.
How did her husband, pro basketball player Kris Humphries, feel about this?
Apparently, not so great. Because 72 days after Kardashian and Humphries’ wildly public marriage, they filed for divorce. Many critics and cynics believed the dalliance was nothing but a fabrication for fame, a way to keep promoting the Kardashian brand.
As for us — we’re just trying to keep up.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth met in 2009, while filming Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Last Song. This onscreen partnership resulted in a long, fraught, on-again-off-again relationship between the two. They finally married in 2018 — but eight months later, it seems they’ve finally reached their last song.
Hemsworth announced their August 2019 separation on his Instagram, saying he wishes “her nothing but health and happiness going forward.” Around the same time, pictures surfaced of Cyrus smooching Kaitlynn Carter, who had most recently broken up with Brody Jenner.
Milla Jovovich and Shawn Andrews
At the age of 16, actor Milla Jovovich married her 21-year-old Dazed and Confused costar Shawn Andrews. The two played a couple on screen, and apparently decided to replicate the romance in their real lives, despite their morally questionable age difference.
Two months in, Jovovich’s mother Galina, an actor herself, intervened and forced the two to end their marriage. Galina then sent Milla away from Hollywood back to her home continent of Europe, to clear her head. Since then, Jovovich has married two filmmakers, Luc Besson and Paul W. S. Anderson.
Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon
When Pamela Anderson has relationship news, she goes to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
In September 2007, she went on the program to announce her engagement to professional poker player Rick Salomon. One month later, the two were wed in Vegas, in between Anderson’s two performances at a magic show.
Unfortunately, two months later, the couple called it quits. But then, in 2013, Anderson appeared on Ellen again, announcing that she and Salomon were still casually dating. And they married again a year later. But by 2015, the remarriage had officially folded.
Chris Kattan and Sunshine Tutt
“Originally I was going to do something very special,” said Saturday Night Live alumnus Chris Kattan about his engagement to model Sunshine Tutt. Kattan reached out to Bono, Justin Timberlake, and even the band Hanson for a romantic serenade.
Eventually, he simply gave Tutt a ring in a cheap box.
Despite this charming gesture, Kattan and Tutt divorced after eight weeks. Some believe that Kattan walked in on Tutt cheating, whereas Tutt’s grandmother said she believed Kattan was the cheater. Ultimately, Tutt’s grandma was mournful: “I never really understood what she saw in him, but that didn’t matter to us.”
Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada
Chad Johnson, the football player formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, proposed to Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada in 2010. She must’ve thought he was a kind soul — after all, he invited a Twitter fan to the wedding when the fan shared the story of her husband’s death.
But the truth was anything but kind.
Shortly after the wedding, Johnson behaved violently toward Lozada. He was arrested, fired from the Miami Dolphins, and just 41 days after the wedding, divorced from Lozada. Johnson was given probation based on the incident, but has violated his terms several times.
Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas
At the age of 19, troubled Hollywood superstar Drew Barrymore married her first husband, 31-year-old bar owner Jeremy Thomas. And in a weird twist of fate, that marriage ended 19 days later. Despite the oddness of the affair, Barrymore said she felt like she was doing things “the old-fashioned way.”
The day after their wedding (a 5:30am ceremony that took place in Thomas’ bar), Barrymore flew to Arizona to shoot Boys on the Side — and already considered their marriage over. She even went on their Hawaiian honeymoon by herself, calling Thomas to deliver the bad news.
Mario Lopez and Ali Landry
After a six year courtship, Saved By the Bell star Mario Lopez married actor/model Ali Landry in a 2004 ceremony. But 18 days later, it all fell apart — thanks to Landry’s discovery of a particularly incriminating photo.
What “extra” problems did Lopez get into?
Lopez explained it openly to Howard Stern: His bachelor party plan was to head to Cabo and fish. But his cousin took him on a “whirlwind tour” instead. And somewhere in that tour, Lopez cheated on Landry, and it was caught on camera.
Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
When you think of a “Dennis Rodman wedding,” you might remember the controversial basketball star wearing a wedding dress and boasting he was going to marry himself while promoting his autobiography. But do you remember his 1998 marriage to Carmen Electra?
The actor/model had just been through tragedy. Both her mom and sister died within two weeks of each other. And Electra, needing some fun, headed to Vegas with boyfriend Rodman and got married. Nine days later, they realized their rushed error, and got the marriage annulled.
Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillips
Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper had a bit of a reputation.
He was married five times in his life, and every single one ended in a bitter divorce. But only one lasted an astonishingly short eight days — his marriage to Michelle Phillips, singer of The Mamas and the Papas.
They met on the set of The Last Movie, Hopper’s experimental, critically hated 1971 film. Their marriage took place very soon after the film wrapped on production, and their divorce took place very soon after their wedding. Phillips also dated Hopper contemporaries Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty.
Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge
For one week in 2011, nothing compared to Barry Herridge. The Irish therapist married provocative singer Sinead O’Connor in Las Vegas, O’Connor’s fourth marriage. But then, in a series of sprawling comments on her website, O’Connor revealed the union was over after seven days.
“There was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me,” wrote O’Connor. And after living together as husband-and-wife, O’Connor realized that Herridge himself felt uncomfortable with her lifestyle. So as she phrased it: “U love someone? Set them free.”
Britney Spears and Jason Allen Alexander
Britney Spears has known ups, and she has known downs. And in 2004, she knew what it was like to be married.
She and childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander tied the knot in Las Vegas at 5:30am, after a desire to do “something wild.” The next morning? Well…
Spears and Alexander, assisted by Spears’ team of professional handlers, got themselves into the nearest court. They made their case for both party’s lack of understanding of the responsibilities of marriages. And they got their marriage annulled.
Total time as husband and wife? 55 hours.
