5 Awe-Inspiring Skyscrapers That Show How Architecture Is Reaching New Heights
There’s nothing like a skyscraper to symbolize man’s ability to achieve greatness. These iconic buildings capture the world’s imagination and serve as a badge of honor to any city that can claim to have one within its boundaries. Below are five of the most notable skyscrapers ever built or planned. Did your favorite make the list?
No skyscraper list would be complete without including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world since 2008. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, it has a roof height of 828 meters. It has a connection to the United States as it was designed by the same architectural firm that designed Chicago’s Willis Tower and New York’s One World Trade Center.
One World Trade Center
Built as part of the recovery following the September 11th terrorist attacks, this beautiful building in New York City is as much a memorial as it is a skyscraper. At 1,776 feet it is the tallest building in the United States and its height is a deliberate reference to the year that America’s Declaration of Independence was signed.
This proposed, 80-floor skyscraper is planned so that it can be rotated by its inhabitants at any time. It is scheduled to be built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates but construction has not begun to take place as of 2019. If built, it will be amazing to witness the various shapes that the building can take.
One of the world’s tallest observation decks is in the Shanghai Tower in China, a building which was completed in 2015. The skyscraper also features the world’s second fastest elevator, which is a great feature to have for guests that want to get to the top decks as quickly as possible!
Tokyo, Japan is set to be home to the world’s tallest wooden skyscraper. At 350 meters, the skyscraper should be four times taller than the current tallest wooden skyscraper. Slated to be complete by 2041, it is designed to exude warmth and calmness, serving as a nature-filled sanctuary from the business of city life.
