So You’ve Lost Weight. Now, Where Did All That Fat Go?
Everyone loves to drop a few pounds. Whether you’re preparing for that sexy beach bod, or just trying to reverse the effects of that extra piece of pumpkin pie last Thanksgiving (oops!), have you ever wondered where the fat actually goes? Look no further, we’ve got all your answers right here.
Turns out, all that flab is actually converted into carbon dioxide and water. The carbon dioxide leaves your body as you exhale, and the water is mixed in your circulation until you sweat it out or excrete it as urine. Think of it this way — if your body is like a car, then the fuel you take in and burn off via exercise is released through your exhaust pipes.
Yep, that’s right. You actually breathe the fat out. Mind. Blown. But how much fat are you actually breathing out?
Flab To Fab
Say you’ve lost 10 pounds of fat. About 8.4 pounds of that leaves your body through your lungs and 1.6 pounds turns into water.
Literally, a majority of all the fat you’ve ever lost has simply been exhaled. Who knew?
OK, so if breathing really solves all my weight problems, why am I not pencil thin yet?!
That’s because you still have to get your body moving to produce carbon dioxide. Breathing in and out excessively is just going to make you dizzy (and look really weird while you’re at it). Moving your muscles is the only way your body produces more carbon dioxide to exhale, which means more fat to burn! Muscle movement also contributes to a higher metabolic rate, which will make it easier for your body to process foods.
The fact that you breathe out all the fat you’ve ever worked off is amazing, but keep in mind a healthy diet and exercise is the only way to shed those pounds.
