Tumblr Tips: Real People Share Relationship Advice To Live By

Relationships are fickle. Hot one minute, cold the next. It can be an endless cycle of breaking up and making up. The good people of Tumblr have shared their most treasured relationship advice to help keep you and your partner cruising through the honeymoon phase. Here’s a round-up of a few of the best.

You’re Never Too Old To Hold Hands

One Tumblr user shared, “Relationship Goals. The middle-aged couple who sat in front of me on my plane ride today who had to sit in two aisle seats across from each other but held hands across the aisle all through takeoff and landing because the wife was nervous.” Whether you’re 18 or 80,  you’re never too old or too married to hold each other’s hands. When in doubt, grab it. It’s a little gesture that will go a long way.

More Than A Destination

Ignore The Haters

High Class Holmes shares, “To all the relatives, “friends” and random strangers who’ve been telling me since I was 16 that being 6’3” made me too tall to wear dresses or find a guy willing to date a girl taller than him: My 5’2” girlfriend loves when I wear dresses, thank you very much.”  Don’t listen to voices outside of your relationship. Focus on making each other happy and finding someone who loves you for you.

Don’t Argue Over The Big Stuff

Narwhal-Noir shares his experience arguing with his girlfriend at an improv show. “I took my girlfriend to an improv show the other night and during intermission we were passionately arguing over whether half of a five-hour energy shot would give you 2.5 hours of energy or five hours of half-energy so we turned around and asked the opinions of the three people behind us and one of them said, “are all of you arguments like this because we heard you in the lobby earlier fighting over the right way to pronounce, egg?”.  This proves that when your biggest argument is about an energy drink, you’re probably doing something right.

The Couple That Naps Together, Stays Together

Tumblr user, Wars Between Stars gives a solid example of the importance of what some may call, co-sleeping. “My brother is friends with this girl who works at the same place he does, and whenever she drops by our house, she goes straight up to his room and they nap for a few hours. That’s the kind of friendship I aspire to have one day. Never mind they were definitely not napping.”

When They Take Your Breath Away

Starxapple shares an adorable story that proves, even when you’re elderly and in a wheelchair, you can still get the breath knocked out of you. “My grandpa has a date tonight and he’s really old and in a wheelchair and has to drag around his breathing machine but he’s sitting there waiting for the hospice shuttle to take him and pick up his date and he looks super excited and it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Update— he came home and I asked him how it went and he said, I should have brought an extra tank of oxygen because she took my breath away.”
