Why The Internet Flipped Over UCLA Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi’s Perfect-10 Floor Routine
Katelyn Ohashi is a senior gymnast at UCLA who stunned judges and competitors alike with her latest floor routine. Using some old school Michael Jackson and Tina Turner music, Katelyn pulled off incredible stunts and dance moves that had the crowd on their feet. Now, with millions of views, her routine has amazed people from all over the world!
Katelyn and her team recently competed at the Collegiate Challenge in Anaheim, CA. UCLA was facing some pretty steep competition. Talented gymnasts from the University of California, Michigan State, and UC Davis were also fighting to win.
That didn’t seem to faze Katelyn one bit. When it was her time to hit the floor, she came out with great confidence and strength. In a two-minute routine, the gymnast delivered a powerful routine that would not only get a high score but would also earn her Internet fame!
Katelyn’s routine was a real throwback. She used old school jams like Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back” and Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Remember The Time.” With that legendary music, the gymnast hit some fun dance moves and had amazing energy in the routine.
What was even more impressive were her showstopping stunts. With gravity-defying aerials and jaw-dropping splits, Katelyn stuck every one of her moves with ease. It’s no wonder that this routine earned a perfect 10 from the judges!
The routine quickly swept the Internet, earning over 40 million views on Twitter! Katelyn became the talk of the town, receiving compliments from new fans and celebrities. Some big names that reached out to her include Sen. Kamala Harris, Jemele Hill, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, and Troy Aikman.
For Katelyn, she’s just proud that she gave her all, which is all she wants to do in every routine. “At the end of the day, I just go out there and do my best and have as much fun as I can,” she said of her newfound fame. “You never know how anyone’s going to respond. So seeing not only that people have responded, but the types of people that have responded is crazy.”
