Waffle House Customer Makes ‘DIY Meal’ So Sleeping Employee Can Get Some Z’s

Waffle house is one of those gems of American dining that tastes even better when it’s a late night. Alex Bowen was in for quite the customer service experience when he came in hungry looking for provisions. He didn’t spot a single customer or employee after about 10 minutes of searching. He then came across a slumbering single employee. Not wanting to disturb the sleeping fellow, he brazenly took it upon himself to scramble up some grub.

Slinging Sandwiches While Snapping Selfies

When Alex strolled into the kitchen of a Waffle House, he immediately got to work creating the perfect culinary creation. Alex was in the mood for a “double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles.”

Fueled by liquid courage and gnawing munchies, Alex was heralded as a hero for his boldness. Alex made sure to immortalize his flash stint as a Waffle House cook with photogenic pics posted on Facebook.

Blame It On The Alcohol

Alex’s actions went viral online. Although Alex cleaned up behind himself, while an exhausted employee was fast asleep at a table, Waffle House wasn’t too thrilled. Mr. Bowen didn’t leave any money to pay for his meal, but he later returned to the branch to slip an employee five bucks on his way out.

Inside Edition

Alex admitted that he was pretty sauced on vodka, which emboldened him to get cooking. Alex did return to the scene of the crime a few days later, as he didn’t have money to cover his drunk eating.

Flip The Script

Luckily, Waffle House took Alex’s misadventures in the kitchen as a marketing opportunity and a valuable learning lesson. The company decided to always schedule a minimum of two staff members at their locations and poked fun at themselves for the incident.

The Chive

The local division manager of Waffle House gave Alex an apology, after Alex’s drunken desire for Waffle House won the hearts of the Internet. The slumbering employee got a week of suspension, and Waffle House changed their policies to be better prepared in the future.
