Woman Marries Another When Her Groom Is Late

Updated

Groom

The old fashioned song, “Get me to the church on time” has never been truer than for one groom in India who found himself late to his wedding. Sadly, by the time he got there, his delayed arrival had some dramatic consequences and his bride ultimately married someone else.

How could that ever happen? We’ve got the story.

The Groom Wasn’t Just Late, He Was REALLY Late

It is one thing to be a few minutes behind schedule and, maybe even, to call ahead to notify people about your delay. It is another thing to have been expected at the alter at 2:00 pm but to not show up or call until late into the night. That kind of “no-call, no-show” would make anyone furious, but especially a bride who is nervous enough about her big day without worrying about being left at the altar. It doesn’t help that he wasn’t apologetic, bashful, or full of excuses by the time he finally arrived.

Maybe her extreme reaction to call off the marriage was understandable. As you might expect, there’s more to the story that helps explain things.

This wedding turned out to be not the original ceremony, but a more formal follow-up to nuptials that took place several months previously as part of a mass ceremony. Unfortunately, the couple’s relationship since that time wasn’t smooth sailing and both families had been bitterly fighting about details related to the bride’s dowry. The groom’s unconventional wedding day behavior was likely related to this.

The Bride’s Family Was So Unhappy, They Took Action

When the groom finally made his appearance, he wasn’t well received. There was no blushing bride or charmed, happy guests with wedding day tears of joy. Instead, there was a very angry family of the bride.

How angry? So angry that they locked up both the groom and his family, and then proceeded to assault them and took their valuables. Basically, the entire scene broke down into a riot. Ultimately, both families called the police in order to resolve the issue but no written complaint was filed.

No Surprise — The Bride Married Someone Else

While it wasn’t easy, the families found a resolution with the help of the authorities. And no surprise — the bride wouldn’t stay married to her husband. They received a divorce and she married someone else. To date, there have been no reports of late gooms, dowry disputes, or riots at this subsequent wedding. Yes, the bride appears to be happier with her second choice than she was with her first.

Other Unusual Wedding Stories Still Don’t Top This One

As crazy as this wedding turned out to be, it isn’t the only unusual wedding moment out there. One American bride had to endure a cringe-filled moment when she looked up just before her event to see her future mother-in-law wearing a wedding dress. She was incredibly surprised and could only think to respond with the sarcastic comment, “wow, YOU could be the bride.” That comment brought the bride’s point home and her mother-in-law realized the mistake. Incredibly, guests appeared not to notice that any attire was amiss.

Other bad wedding moments are surprisingly common. There are terrible outfits, falls during a first dance, awkward drunken toasts, and even a reported fish dropped on a bride’s head by a seagull during a beach wedding. However, while these weddings weren’t easy, they weren’t in the same league as the Indian fiasco. Let’s hope that the bride, and her family, have found happiness with their new union. And that the former groom finds happiness in his next relationship too.
