Woman Makes Full Recovery From Life Threatening Stroke Thanks To Her Smart Dogs

Have you ever had a situation where everything went just right? Maureen Hatcher, who lives in St. Augustine, Florida is still alive today thanks to just that kind of situation. She was home alone when she had a serious stroke. She was unable to move or talk. Thanks to chance and her two heroic dogs, Sadie and Belle, she was able to get lifesaving medical attention quickly.

A Fortunate Mistake

Maureen Hatcher has a Ring doorbell on her front door, and the door automatically locks as soon as it’s close. On this particular day, Maureen didn’t quite close the door completely, so the automatic locks didn’t turn on.

All of Hatcher’s family members were out of the house that day, and she suddenly had a stroke. There was no way Maureen could call an ambulance because the stroke left her unable to speak clearly or move. She could have died if her dogs didn’t act quickly.

Sadie and Belle Spring Into Action

No one knows exactly how they did it, but somehow the dogs let themselves out of the house. Maureen thinks they were able to nudge the handle open with their noses because the door wasn’t completely shut.

Footage of the dogs running out of the house was captured by Hatcher’s Ring camera. The dogs ran to a neighbor’s home and barked until they got someone’s attention. The neighbor knew it was strange for Saide and Belle to be outside without Maureen, so she ran over to Maureen’s home. When she saw the front door open, she knew something was wrong.

A Great Outcome

The neighbor called 911. As soon as the paramedics saw Maureen’s condition, they could immediately tell she had suffered from a stroke. Rather than taking her to the closest hospitals, they took her to one in Jacksonville that specializes in stroke care.

Doctors used a stent to completely remove the blood clot that caused Maureen’s stroke. Today, Maureen doesn’t have any permanent medical issues from the incident, and she gives all credit to her incredibly smart dogs.
