Meet Zsa Zsa, the Latest Winner of World’s ‘Ugliest’ Dog Contest

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and according to the World’s Ugliest Dog competition, ugliness is too. The competition out of Petaluma, California selected the latest winner in its annual competition: Zsa Zsa. Needless to say, Zsa Zsa is one unique looking pup.

Unbelievable Underbite

Zsa Zsa is a 9-year-old English bulldog with one wicked underbite and a very long, droopy tongue. Still, none of this stops her from being a star.

The Boston Globe

Rocking pink nail polish and a sparkly collar, Zsa Zsa was destined for greatness. She and her family drove more than 30 hours from Minnesota to compete in this year’s World’s Ugliest Dog competition. “It’s hard for me to call her the ugliest dog because I always tell her she’s so pretty,” Zsa Zsa’s owner, Megan Brainard, said.

Stealing The Show

The competition, which has been active for 30 years, awards a check of $1,500 and a trophy to the winner’s owner. The contest promotes pet adoption by celebrating the uncommon looks of dogs from around the world.

The National

Upon winning the competition, Zsa Zsa and her mom jetted off to New York City to appear on NBC’s Today Show. Sadly, Zsa Zsa’s life wasn’t always so glamorous.

Puppy Mill To Princess

Zsa Zsa spent five years of her life in a puppy mill in Missouri until her breeders no longer wanted her. After receiving extensive care from Underdog Rescue based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Zsa Zsa was matched with her new mom. “You just kind of know when there’s a family who’s the right fit, and that they’re going to take really good care of the dog who has never had anybody and truly deserves it,” Shannon McKenzie, founder, and director of Underdog Rescue, said. “You kinda just know in your gut that it’s all going to work out the way it’s supposed to.”

Zsa Zsa’s mom couldn’t agree more. “From the moment we saw her beautiful face, we knew we would be her forever home,” Brainard, said. “We are so excited for her. She deserves this.”
